Why I’m Getting a BRZ

I’m new here, but I thought I’d tell my story. For years, I’ve been interested in finding something new that captured the spirit and, preferably, some of the looks of the Datsun 240Z. I had a 240Z in the 90’s but foolishly let it go.
I got interested in my quest, once again, when Nissan came out with latest iteration of the Z. I was never much interested in the ZX, the 350, the 370. For me, it was as if Nissan had lost its way with the Z. It was just too large and not at all appealing to my eyes. As an old girlfriend said when she saw a 370, “it looks like a fat turtle.” ;) Unfortunately, my investigation into the latest Z resulted in a “no go,” once again. I’m not crazy about the multicolored look, for most of the colors. And good luck trying to find a Sport, especially one in a true red. It’s still on an old chassis, and even though it has a 400HP turbo, the car is still heavy and whale-like looking. And the price? Ha! The dealership gouging is unbelievably outrageous, especially since Nissan production vs. demand is ridiculous, too. Then, I decided to take a look at the latest BRZ/86. It sure reminds me of the 240Z, especially after driving it. Order placed, Ignition Red, MT, Limited, due in November. :) As for looks, I think Subaru/ Toyota did a lot better job that Nissan. Here’s a Nissan Z, 280Z, BRZ comparison. Congratulations, this car is definetly likes of old school Mustangs and 240Z. By Nov 23, it might be 2023 model year. I got my 2023 in Sep of last year. May be look also in to special edition that would be revealed on 23rd.

My RX-7 was a 1979, it had a 4 barrel Hitachi Carb! lol

I had an RX-3 in the 240Z days. My first super fun car. It could outrun everything in the day except the Datsun. I liked the rotary enough to buy the RX-7 when it first came out. Before it got to the point that only doctors and lawyers could afford it. Great car. Almost as nice as an 86.

One of my friends in college had a rotary pickup. That was different.

Funny thing about rotary engines... and a lesson about engineering: It is hard to identify what is most important. Rotary engines do everything better than piston engines... except the one salient shortcoming! They cannot properly do what piston rings do, vis-a-vis cylinder hone and oil film replenishment. Sure, less vibration, no reciprocating mass... yada yada... but they missed out on the little thing that was the most important.
Similar story with AC vs DC electricity wars in the time of Edison. DC is better in every way, except for distribution... which turns out to be the most important thing!! ... and in a few years when we are running on synthesized fuels... "Battery-powered cars, charged from a failing grid? What were those idiots thinking!" :-)) |
