Ice box for intercooler charge cooling
Just thinking of alternatives for air charge cooling beside chillerkiller
1. Has anyone looked into an ice box to chill our intercooler for FI? since some setups (Edelbrock) already has a water pump for A2W intercooler would it just entail making a larger coolant reservoir to replace the surge tank and dumping ice cubes inside it? 2. Or put the surge tank inside an icebox and load the icebox and drain it every time sort of like a water to water/ice intercooler? 3. if cabin heating isn't a necessity can you route the intercooler lines into the cabin heater core and blast the AC onto the heater core? do the manual knobs on BRZ/FRS allow this? |

I turn my fans on and spray water over it. Drops the oil and coolant temps too

How about packing your intercooler with dry ice? No watery mess.

How about get rid of the FI completely and use liquid oxygen injection instead? Surprised this hasn't been thought of before. |

I've been thinking about it for a minute but haven't tested anything yet. Here's what I've got.
Chiller Box Room is at premium in the engine bay, if you just replaced the stock tank with a chiller box, you'd be sitting right above if not pretty close to where the headers run for heat rising. It would be colder for a while but the increased volume would also keep it from heat soaking as fast. Heater Core as radiator This is the option I've been leaning towards as I live in the south, don't need interior heat much, and have an upgraded radiator. You'll lose some coolant system volume, so an upgraded radiator would be required for track days I think. If you run the heater core as the first stop after the supercharger then continue on to the front mount, this would allow the fluid to cool a little bit before reaching the fmic and still allow for some interior heating(if any really). The additional volume would also increase time to heat soak as well as lower heat soak temp. IC Spray Always nice to have, but you have to keep refilling the reservoir and you can't use it on a track day. Methanol would work better but I prefer to not spray my engine bay with flammable liquids. The intercooler doesn't get hot enough to evaporate water but air speed could push it through. Any more ideas? Thought on my thoughts? |
People also spray NOS! directly onto the intercooler. Something with a faster evaporation rate will feel/be cooler like alcohol does on your skin versus water.

Why would you spend the time and money on nos sprayed intercooler for your boosted fa20 only to have it let go the first time you push the button?
