2014 BRZ 134k Miles P0018 Code

Hey everyone,

Haven't been here since 2016. Bought my girl new and she finally threw her first CEL at 134k miles. It's a P0018. I'm bone stock except a perrin catback which was installed in 2014.

Searching the forms I see horror stories about these crankshaft sensor codes. Some require timing chain spur gears, ecu's, and ecu flashes.

For some background, I received the CEL coming home from work today while driving on a flat road at 55mph in 6th. Didn't notice limp mode /any power loss as well as any strange noises. I disconnected the battery for a bit, CEL went away on startup, but came back after driving for 10 mins.

I have a dealership appt for Tues and just changed the oil again tonight since that was a recommended thing to do.

Anyone with high miles experience these cam sensor errors? If so, what was the fix?

Thanks everyone

Just following up on this for anyone else having this issue in the future. Ended up replacing a cam gear and ECU at the Subaru dealer for $3100 USD.

Did they give you your old ECU back? Want to sell it?
