Michelin PSS vs PS4S?
Well it’s time now to change over my tyres. I’m currently running Michelin Pilot Super Sports and have loved them. I’m tossing up between getting Michelin Pilot Super Sports again or Michelin Pilot Sport 4Ss the Super Sport’s replacement from my understanding. Why not call it Pilot Super Sport 2, anyway, anyone on here gone from PSS to PS4S?
I can get 4 x PSSs for $1326 vs 4 x PS4Ss for $1470, so save $144, going the same again. Also open to other recommendations, but I’m really happy with the PSSs. For context mostly do weekend mountain driving (canyon driving for those in North America ;) ) |
I went from PSS to PS4S. The PSS were fine for my purposes, but didn't last long, and aged out quick. I did run them hard in the hills with e85 and JRSC. I was before wear indicators and they became slick as heck, but we're getting old. The PS4S are still pretty new. Feel pretty much the same.
I would be concerned about age for any PSS. My understanding is they haven't been made for quite a few years. |
PS4S.
MPSS is pretty much deprecated and discontinued. MPSS (2012 debut) is also older tire technology compared to PS4S (2017 debut). |

Another set of tires you may want to try, if you want to save a bit, are Dunlop Direzza ZIII. Good bang for your buck. Downsides: they wear down pretty quick, super noisy when low on tread, not the best in rain. If these are something to look out for then it'd be best to go with PSS/PS4S. |

Thanks for the responses everyone. I think I’m going to go with the PS4Ss, probably worth the extra bit more. I’ll let you know my thoughts once they’re fitted and I’ve had them for a while.

I ran a set of PS4S on my last car, and while a great tire, they did wear out quicker than the PSS and I'm not confident the grip was any better than the PSS. I was already looking at the Conti's before I sold that car and if I was going to run summers daily on my BRZ I'd consider them again. |
