Wheel Re-Torque to 89 ft-lb
 

Greetings Everyone (especially casual car people who don't do a lot of wrenching,)

Situation: a few weeks back - I was checking how a few different winter wheels looked - and swapping out the wheel locks for regular lug nuts. I found that some of the lug nuts were barely hand-tight. Not anywhere close to the 89 ft-lb called out in the 'Installing a Spare Tire' section of the owners manual - p.380. (also in 'Specifications' p. 418)

At this point - I had well over 4000 miles on the car and was kind of freaked out - seeing as how I had driven 2500 of those miles cross country with my 6 year old in the car.

Recommendation: per the 'Aluminum Wheel Precautions' found on pg 317 of the owner's man - 'When rotating, repairing or changing your tire, check that the wheel nuts are still tight after driving 1000 miles.'

Seem like there would be a pre first oil change service check for this??

Or, maybe the dealership didn't properly PDI the car.

Anyway, just thought I should share this info.

According to te PDI checklist, the torque on the lug nuts do not get checked. I guess I'd better check mine now.

How were they?

I checked every one and only two weren't torqued completely. But even those two were far from finger tight.

But it's worth checking for peace of mind anyway.
