Anybody trade AT to stealership for MT yet??
I came from a E46 M3 with auto/paddles and it was a blast to drive.
I got the same package in the FR-S, I know it was unrealistic to expect the same performance but I am seriously regretting not getting manual now. It was a bad impulse decision and now considering swallowing my pride and tucking my tail and going back to the dealer to get a MT. How badly should I expect to get ripped?? My FRS only has 800 miles FYI. |
There is no concrete value established for the car yet, so you would take a bigger hit. I'd expect a dealer to give you around $5k less than MSRP.

Ow dear... Didnt u test drive it first???....
Yeah dealership will do what they do and try to take u for whatever they can but good on ya for changing up to a MT... How much though i wouldnt have a clue.. Quicker u do it the better u would think? R u going to stick with the same colour? |
What UncleFester said above. You're going to take a pretty huge hit.

Plus you are going to have to pay taxes, tags, and fee's again. My $.02 is to just man up and own the auto at least until next years model comes out and the used values are established.
(Sold cars for 4 years.) |
did you take it on a nice run with the sport feature turned on ? the shifting is as good as the Lexus IS and very fast so just wondering..
to answer your question, i almost bought a 100mile used FRS and i asked the buyer - how much do you want - he knocked off 900 dollars off MSRP. when i checked with the dealer they said - no, the car is automatically MINUS 3-4k under msrp regardless of 100 or 1000 miles... good luck with that idea... the FR-S is not an M3... maybe thats the problem... with this comparison.. |
If you purchase the MT from the same dealer that you bought your AT from, they will probably give you a better deal than another dealership will. You'll probably lose 10-25% of what you paid for the 1st car though on trade. I'm thinking somewhere between 5 & 10k to walk away from your AT to get into an MT (loss on trade-in, down-payment on new MT, tax/title/registration/fees)? It will not be pretty. I would just hold out at least for a year or two, maybe wait and see what kind of TRD/STI model comes out? Just enjoy the car you have IMO.
*edit - spelling |
Dealer I bought mine off of said someone wanted to trade in an auto for manual, but the dealer didn't really want to do it. My trade in was a 2012 and I got it big on it. So I'd expect the same for you.

Yes I took it for a test drive although it was in heavy traffic. I admit I got caught up in the hype and my CPO warranty just ran out on my M3 and those things are ticking time bombs with the SMG transmission when you get to high mileage. Maybe I just miss my M3 and am being too hard on the FR-S. I would prefer the same color. I will prob take you guys advice and wait til the values for used ones are established. |
I got the manual and regret not getting the paddle shifters.
I saw this post and now I want to keep my MT XD |
Yea I think I may attempt a private sale if anything and hope to get close to enough for a MT.
|
I have a MT, but I've driven an auto and I thought it was as good as the silly SMG auto that went into the E46.

I'm having a blast with the paddles on the AT, i really like it. Though the AT really shines on one hour plus traffic near Laguardia...
Sorry to hear you don't like it, hope you get a deal selling it. |
