Nice video but I'd be concerned with heat soak. I can't drive very well with the hood open. I'd love to see what power blocks do on these motors. Thx for your contributions to this forum BTW. Is there anyway you could dyno a tuned 1st generation and your tuned 22 on the same day and show us the difference?

I did dyno it back to back with the hood closed. The shield does its job and it does not heatsoak.

Look through our BRZ playlist - I did a number of comparisons to the gen1 on the dyno.

There a velocity stack on the inside of the cone filter?

Cliffs? I'm not watching a nearly 20 minute video about an intake.

6-8hp near the very peak of rpm is not worth 500$

Under the makes cool noises category....

Thanks for the video and info though

the intake doesnt look like it would be compatible with any of the oil cooler kits available, as the intake shield look very close to the oil filter housing.

I suppose nor is $1500 of catback exhaust but that's deemed as ok.

Correct, you and I are on the same level of understanding or have modified cars before and the awareness of the disease associated with modifying vehicles.

hp/$ ratio and the brz boizzz/noise to clout ratio

These cars are damn near efficient stock, to squeeze another 15-20hp out of them is a steep hp/dollar ratio. (its my money and going to do what I want with my car bruhhhhh)

Best mod= pay it off/ preservation of paint mods

In 20 years if these cars end up like the s2000's then they will be worth more close to stock then tunes/exhaust/intakes but we will see.

What about the cost/benefit ratio for handling mods? I'm pretty happy with the platform now, but as time goes by and I become more familiar with it, could see being tempted to play around with the handling a bit.

I was actually going to say that it might be better to put that money into suspension and brakes.Unless you are going FI,spending a bunch of money to squeeze out a couple of HP seems like a waste of money, but to each their own,I guess.

If it was about being sensible, one wouldn’t have purchased a sports car in the first place. This forum sometimes, yeesh. .

I suspect here's where the difference comes in. People already know a catback isn't going to add any power. But still cling to the idea that an intake will, even though it's been shown multiple times it doesn't. So they are buying because they think it's going to add power, whereas people buy a catback knowing it's just going to be louder.

Oh don't kid yourself there are plenty that will swear they get a huge increase from a catback or different header.
The thing is that there are indeed many, many cars that can can and do get huge gains from headers' exhaust and intakes. You can take mom's old base model Civic and almost double the power with a few bolt ons as it was never designed for power in the first place. The GRs design pretty much wrings out everything they can to start with so basic bolt ons will have little impact.
