RR's "temporary" FR-S

Hey guys, I've been here for a long time and posted up!! I don't consider myself an OG member but more like 1st gen; back when the FT86 was just a drawing! ;) It felt like a father seeing his son/daughter born, grow up and then go off to college with the final release of the FR-S and BRZ.

Unfortunately, I didn't buy a FR-S and like most have to decided to wait. Since I visit SF just to lurk, I've got bitten by the Supra bug again. I'm sure I pissed off Guff with my multiple PM's! :bellyroll:

I told myself if I was gonna get a Supra, it better be clean, CA compatible, hell no on the rice and not an APU.

Low and behold, I've been in talks with one member and actually found a very pristine '93 original 6 spd, clean title, TT, BONE STOCK w/only 54k miles and only 2 owners. Carfax and Autocheck come out clean and I've talked to the guy a few times, asked as many questions as I can before I pulled the trigger.

I believe this is it, my search has finally ended. I put a deposit but it still hasn't marinated that it's mine. I'm actually flying out next week to go see it, drive it, do the paperwork and all but I still have the mentality that nothing is official yet until I have the keys or once it's off the enclosed trailer.

This car is a freaking gem and as weird as it might sound, I'm not gonna fix it up! It's going to stay just the way it is! Once it's in CA, I'm going to do the full 120K service (belt, water pump, belt tensioner, all fluids flushed, comp n leak down check, plugs, brakes, new tires and get the wheels polished.

Nice man. Always wanted one.

No wing or Turbo emblem, odd.

Wow  I know it's kinda personal but mind me asking what's the monetary value if this car? It's like rolling off the assembly line. Amazing, congrats on the purchase.

I thought the 'turbo' added on the later yrs? The Toyota and Supra location looks a little off but can't really tell. The carfax and autocheck did show that in 2000, it listed it as "minor accident" in the rear.

Here is an old Wings West ad. :iono:

KBB is 28K in Excellent condition and I'm sure this car in this state has met that criteria. I was in 9th grade when this car came out and I remember going to the International Auto show only to sit in the Supra. I collected the brochure, cut it along the bodyline and fender to make it look like a 2d lowered version and putting in the clear pocket of my notebook. :bellyroll:

Of course, I wanted to stay within a certain price range and it was dumb to see how many Supras were way over priced. I blame it on FnF!

Back when I had my GSR and at the San Diego Street races, there were literally 3 Supras (Professor, Keith Ta and Rotha Chan)

wow! Nice find a Supra that hasn't been molested I never thought it would be possible!

I plan to own a Supra one day. Its my dream car and the MKIII is the one that got me into cars.

Congrats!

Thanks man!

I almost bought a baltic blue hardtopper but the guy's description was inaccurate and he started to get a little agro with me. So glad I didn't. There was another cleaner one than this on SF that was posted for 52K w/13K miles, also bone stock. That one was in even better condition since it was a '98.

No dis:respekt: but I was unimpressed with a lot of the Supras for were for sale.

Mr.Jay 08-21-2012 07:30 PM

oh for sure there are too many beat Supras modded to shits and asking for wayyy more money than the car is worth (for a used car)

I was looking at a Renaissance Red 94 TT Supra in Alberta with just under 80xxxkm on it but throw up in my mouth when I saw the owner was asking 50K for it.

Was this recently? I think I know what you are talking about. Its funny how a lot of owners think that putting 100K in aftermarket mods justifies the asking price. It's worse when it has a wide body, molded this and that, full audio system, full roll cage and they post it for some insane amount.

There's a dude asking $57k for a 9k mile Supra TT on the Supra forums. All I can say is, if he can get anywhere close to $50k for it, good for him!

Nice find! I wouldn't mod it if I were you, either. The Supra is becoming an investment these days. A good one in original condition can only go up in value at this point!

Hawaiian 08-22-2012 02:02 PM

I am supra jelly!

Thanks man! I like them more w/out the wing so to see it wingless was definitely a plus. If it had a wing, no biggie, I'd eventually deal with it.

The extreme clean '98 w/only 13K miles that was recently posted sold for somewhere in the 50's. That one was more mint than this one. I'm still a wee bit excited b/c I was almost ready to settle for less and pull the car apart to restore it and so glad I didn't.

I'm hella detailed oriented and I know the trunk emblems not being aligned correctly is going bug the crap out of me to the point where I'll put new ones on and in the correct location.

Guff just sold his but there are a few for sale on SF. You find a AT/TT for under 20K easily. Those are more common.

@RRnold congrats and welcome back to the fold! Cheers to keeping it relatively stock. Mods are fun but there's a lot to be said for a completely reliable MkIV with solid maintenance and zero issues. We've enjoyed this approach for years. The bestwheelbase Supra is not the fastest around, but it's the most consistent, trouble-free, and plenty strong. A couple subtle tweaks to make it our own and you can be happy for years.
