Whats your Holy Trinity of mods?

You get three mods. stock frs/brz. only three.

I'll start

Lowering springs, wheels & tires, and window tint.
(I get to combine wheels/tires bc I started the thread, I guess you can too)

I could waste time explaining that springs/wheels/tires offer both cosmetic AND performance upgrades, that springs are a good first mod to introduce you to your car and turning wrenches, or that I'm 31 now and think its cringey if your GF can hear you parking your car outside her place like some attention seeking teenager BUT,

I'm more interested in hearing what you guys have to say.

Differential type of guy? Brakes? S/C? Big wing!?

DarkPira7e 01-08-2023 09:49 PM

Tires, Ecutek, Fumoto valve

soundman98 01-08-2023 10:57 PM

louvers, sound system, ranger badge.

Sapphireho 01-08-2023 11:17 PM

Shift knob, TRD sound generator, and underglow.

Sasquachulator 01-09-2023 03:20 AM

I would think brake kit, baffled oil pan, oil cooler....

Now you are ready to handle uninterrupted track days before the rest of the car's limitations start to make themselves known.

Spoon engines. T66 turbo, with NOS, and a Motec system exhaust.
All can be ordered by Hector, he is the guy

CedN 01-09-2023 12:19 PM

I put 2019 brz dampers and lowering springs on (+camber bolts and alignment). Would definitely do that again if i bought another car, much more comfortable ride, and also less of the wild oversteer fest on roundabouts and track, and looked better, and fairly cheap.

WNDSRFR 01-09-2023 12:28 PM

1. Lowering springs
2. UEL header and custom exhaust
3. Some sort of forced induction
or
4. Engine swap for more power

If you choose number 4 then cancel number 2 and substitute a fancy wing.

spcmafia 01-09-2023 01:19 PM

Love the responses. I love it here. I wished I had really spent more time on the forums before purchasing a bunch of things that I didn't really need. But I rounded it up to

1. RCE Suspension
2. Tires
3. Raceseng Shift Knob

Kind of hard to pick just three, but suspension should've been my first mod, not to say OEM isn't bad, but for those who track, it is a must, even spirited drives.

Tires shouldn't really need to be explained. Yes the Primacy one are alright and induce slides, but it makes a whole world of difference when focusing on maximum grip. Paired with a great suspension, it changes your world.

I could've said brake pads, or Fumoto valve for 3, but I think a weighted shift knob is a huge quality of life improvement that adds that extra comfort for those like me that are not used to such a notchy transmission. Being able to have additional leverage during gear shifts at high speeds can improve your driving experience.

i think powers overrated, costs north of 4 grand for a jrsc, $1k for the install, 500 for the ecutek & liscence, 500 for the dynotune. take that 6 grand and buy a yamaha r6 or fz09 instead. i think its a waste trying to make your car fast, but you can spend cheap money making if feel a heck of a lot more fun.

i voted springs over coils myself, curious why you say spring too, and not coils

Not saying it needs a huge amount of power. Just saying a car that looks this cool should be able to keep up with a Camry on the road at least. I was lucky enough to have snagged a Phantom ESC while they were still available and it's my favorite mod by far. Back in the day the total cost of the ESC, batteries and tune were less than $2000.
And a motorcycle sucks in the rain or the snow. And you can't even carry a case of beer on it.

Im in this camp aswell, test drove a BRZ with manifolds, and after that i crossed that of my list of possible mods, lots of costs for very little change. Though i would like to add some more noise to my car make it a bit more fun. If my 86 was my project car i would maybe put an E85 map in it, but since i need to do lots of short trips i skip that.

Theres many other places to put that money for making the car fun every day. But every one likes different things :)

3 is too little for one who likes to mod. So in that case, it's best to keep the car the way it was made from factory and enjoy it for what it is.

Fun question! Trying to follow the rules, my 3 would be: oil cooler, coilovers, and wider wheels/tires (wheels if I could only pick one)

Stretching it a bit, I'd swap the oil cooler for a K20...
