My car hates me.

So, new year, new wheels. They have been sitting in storage for a while while I run the AD08s down to the wires which I durned near did. After floating around all day the last time it rained I figured it was time. :iono:

I did that yesterday and today I went for a drive and "sniff sniff," Really; are we doing this again? Pop the hood, yup. The front main seal is leaking AGAIN. This engine has been yanked twice and fixed once in the car, every time for an oil leak. This is the second time for the front main seal to leak. This, THIS is my reward for buying you new wheels and all the other stuff in the mail? You craycray, car; why you do me like this?:(

I guess I'm lucky it's just the main seal. It was the whole damned timing cover before and that was Subaru's problem. That warranty is long over. This is my problem now. Guess I better fire up that search function and see if what I thought I heard about that job, that there is some trick to getting it back in, is true. Maybe start a thread asking about harmonic balancers and see everyone argue.

No, I won't do that.

I'ma fix you, car. You won't break my spirit!

Shouldn't be any worse than the time you and Dom needed to pull the 4g63 to replace Brian's piston rings that were fried.

You can pull the timing cover without pulling the engine out. Doing it after a nice long drive so the sealant is pliable

Just make sure you get the crank extension on correctly and don't force it as it shares a key with the lower timing sprocket and indexes into to the oil pump to drive it. Front main is a simple job, but also easy to mess up.

It's just the wiper seal on the crank, luckily. I did a little digging on the keyway issue and it makes sense. I was worried based on some anecdotal stuff I heard but now that I found good pictures of it I realize it's just a standard "hey, pay attention to what you are doing" thing.
