RIP - Terry Hall

Just can't believe that we've lost Terry Hall. The Specials was an all time great 2 Tone band. Grew up listening to his music.. sad day indeed..

I got the news on an audiophile forum. Sad to hear. JD001 since you had mentioned a while back that you had actually seen Terry somewhere out in the wild, I popped back to this forum.

I first became a fan in junior high school around 79. I was introduced to The Specials by my geography teacher who happened to be a Brit, and he explained to the class that Ghost Town was about the racial and economic tensions of the time in the UK. Later, in high school I played their ska style on my first Tama drum kit.

He was much too young.

Naked woman naked man,
Where did you get that bright suntan?

RIP

The UK wasn't a pretty place at the time when Terry and his band were playing.. The 2 Tone movement bonded the youth at that time but the underlying shit was and is still about.

You've got a good memory, I did see him in tiny place called Kenilworth just outside of Coventry circa 1987/88. He was driving a bogo 1980s Toyota saloon, nothing flashy.

His side kick Neville I've bumped into 2 twice, again in Coventry. I also seen Buster Bloodvessel and I used to work with a bloke who was dating Suggs mother just at the time they started with Madness..

If you're interested, there is a great documentary on BBC iPlayer about the 2 Tone movement.. Brilliant watch.. I am going to watch it again now... 2 Tone: Sound of Coventry.

RIP Terry!

I will search out that doc, it's probably on Youtube as well.

This year I've been stuck on Youtube following the Russians getting pushd out of Ukraine. I'd volunteer to support away from the front lines but I have 2 kids and 2 cats to be here for.

Glad the UK is helping, as is Canada and the rest of the allies, proportionately. We sent them BAE howitzers (UK made) and lots of cold weather gear that we really aren't needing urgently.

We are also sending ice cubes to the Russians to help them through the winter. Vodka is a weapon. lol

Seriously, Russia might have over 100,000 troops dead so far in 302 days. Ukraine military losses might be less than a fifth of that BUT it is estimated in the range of 200,000 Ukrainian civilians have been killed and a huge number of Ukrainian children kidnapped to Russia, orphans and mothers with children deported deep into "the motherland" to be "russified". We are watching Russia attempt to decimate a neighbouring country and flex their oppressive power with blood and fear. I guess we should be thankful Putout isn't building labour/extermination camps?

Sorry for the hijack, but I hope the comfortably insulated from war public are aware of the new fascism in Europe. My grandfather volunteered to fight in the Canadian infantry in WW2.
