NAV upgrade help needed
2014 Scion Monogram edition with OEM Pioneer premium audio with nav. As far as I know, the maps have never been upgraded. Toyota part, (I assume a disc) is discontinued. Part #is HDD07-00. Does anyone have or know of where I can get one of these? I suspect, however, that the maps won't be much more current because I think they stopped offering nav in the 2015 or 16 models.

if toyota says the part is discontinued, that's likely as far as things can go, unfortunately. it's a toyota-specific flavored head unit.
you could attempt to try if any other 2014-16 scion models have an updated map card, and cross your fingers it's the same software as in your fr-s, but you'd likely need to purchase the map card at full price, it'd likely not be returnable, and there'd be significant risk the money would be wasted. |
That's kinda what I thought. I was surprised that they stopped offering NAV in later models, but apparently the demand wasn't there because so many buying this low-budget car used cell-phone NAV. OK until you get out of cell range.

what really did in the built-in nav, or the stick-on Magellan units for me was the newest batch of smart phones are now able to download maps for offline use for areas of my choosing.
if i know i'm going to be out of cell range, i just download the area beforehand now. |
About 20 years ago I spent most of two summers motorcycling the California mountains where a lot of back country roads were not on my at-the-time new Magellan GPS. It was hard to find places with it, but I could rely on it to get me home by just entering my home location and keep turning to that direction on the screen.
