Dunno how many people here are into RC but I couldnt pass up the opportunity to make my own RC FR-S...sadly i think my mini FR-S can actually beat my real FR-S to 40 mph....

The body is a Tamiya kit.

Nice! As for the 0-40 times -- the mini's got the advantage in power to weight ratio, but the cargo space is quite limited :D

How is that RC? I was thinking of getting one but I'm more used to smaller scale cars. Where do you use it? Do you have a track near you or do you just use it on the streets?

where can i get one of these RC thingys. I wanna race it against my real FRS on a downhill straightaway

We have a bunch of indoor tracks out here in phoenix and one of the local hobby shops sets up the equivalent of autocross for RC in their parking lot. This kit hasnt seen anything other than a little bit on the road outside my house, and even then it was just to make sure the thing ran and went straight.

As for where you can get an RC car, Tower hobbies is a good place to start, the only bad thing is that the FR-S body is a kit, by itself and you would have to buy an actual RC car to put it on. As a kit the body starts as a clear mold, that you have to cut out and drill mounting holes etc. Then you have to paint it...on the inside of the shell, and then you apply decals and do detail paint work.

For reference, you can buy a starter Rc kit that will fit this body for about $200, the RC car that i have the body on is about $1200...

What do you mean by "How is that RC?"

Its radio controlled using 2.4Ghz FM technology, used run crystals back in the day but the new setups give further range needing less power. The car itself is a 1/10th scale which is pretty much the standard for RC nowadays. you can still find 1/12th and 1/16th scale but they arent quite as prevalent.

The crazy thing is if you haven't been in the hobby in a while electrics have pretty much completely dominated the RC market as Nitro engines cant compete with the power the new battery/brushless motor combinations are putting out. I do have a nitro powered on road truggy that has a two speed transmission and can hit 65mph when i have the engine tuned for it. But I also have an electric 1/8th scale Short course truck that will outrun it...even though the short course truck is heavier.

The sad reality is RC is an obscenely expensive hobby when you start running what the pros use. I have 3 $1200+ cars right now and 2 more that are $700 and $600 respectfully.

I'm practicing flying remote control helicopters on a tiny one that i can fly indoors...but one day I hope to have a true 3D heli...they can do loops, barrel rolls and even fly upside down, but cost an arm and a leg...so i practice the basics on a little $100 jobber.

I was asking more along the lines of how well does it drive but I also thought it was that cheap HPI that Scion is selling at first. I should have read the post more thoroughly. I see now I'm used to electric motors cause Ive always used 1:24 and 1:27 scale since I can set up a track in my apartment. And yeah this is an expensive hobby. Ive got 600$ in one of my Kyosho cars.

Well the TC6.1, that my FR-S body is on, handles like a slot car on properly prepared racing surfaces, on the street outside my house its like its on ice. Its such a focused RC car that its practically worthless unless its on a track. The others are quite a bit more fun for general messin around. The B44.1 has me excited since I should have it finished by this weekend and finally get to run it!

Thats pretty sweet. I dont do rc but i love collecting models. Been waiting for auto art to release one but i fear that its gonna be a gt86 and not an exact copy of my frs
