Replacement Trunk Lift Struts

The gas lifts, aka struts, on my 2018 86 GT w/ spoiler lack sufficient force to open the trunk lid all the way up. I have to open trunk by pulling up on spoiler about 6 inches before gas lifts take it the rest of the way. Anyone else have this issue? Was wondering if added weight of spoiler exceeds design capacity of gas lifts.

OEM replacements are ridiculous $$$. Any good replacement sources for spoiler equipped vehicle?

Thanks!

It's normal.

I just lift with the lip where the button is. My hand is already there after all.
Can't really say I even gave it a second thought since most of the truck lids I have had didn't even have struts.

Did you add the spoiler? Cars that came with spoilers have stronger struts than those without.

2018 GT has the same stock spoiler I have. He isn't wrong. The struts really don't kick in until the trunk lid is up a few inches and they get some vertical lift. They work well once you hit that sweet spot though. I think they are intended more for keeping it open than making it easier to lift since they are horizontal for much of the opening process. Don't know that having stronger ones would make any difference at all for that first stage.

Stock spoiler...now understand manual part-lift is normal.

Thanks
