Crash bolt installation question
I've seen and read a number of tutorials on installing crash bolts for the 1st gen twins but I haven't been able to find as detailed information on the 2nd gen. Can anyone with access to the service manual confirm whether the torque spec is the same as on the gen 1 (114 lb-ft according to savagegeese)? I assume the installation process is identical otherwise.
On a more subjective note… is it worth the trouble? :) |
torque spec is the same. install is the same
it's a very easy install and only really takes a few minutes once the car is in the air. for the $20-$30 spent, it's likely the best thing you can do to get more responsive turn-in feel from the car |
Hope this isn't too OT, but does the installation of the crash bolts allow you to adjust the camber to suit your needs, or does it lock you into a specific amount of camber?
I seem to remember reading on my old car, your camber choices were 0 with stock equipment and around -3 degrees with the crash bolts. While I wouldn't mind being able to dial in a bit more camber, I don't want to go to aggressive either would like the ability to chose my own "poison". |
not sure you'd get all the way to -3 with them. you might need offset or adjustable tophats (camber plates) to get all the way to -3.

If you push the strut all the way in, you basically go from 0 degrees to -1 (maybe -1.4ish at most) with the stock struts. Quote:

I'm not after any crazy camber settings, but a bit more to improve turn in would be nice. Good to know there is a even a little adjustability in the stock suspension. |
This video is hilarious

Hopefully this isn't a dumb question, but I haven't seen it mentioned in any of the threads I read on this topic.
Does the correct nut come with the crash bolt as a set, or do you order them separately? From the diagram on parts.subaru.com, it looks like the nut for the 14mm bolt is part number N380008. I'll be getting an alignment done soon and figured I'd knock out this mod while I was at it. I'd hate to get the appointment made and the bolts ordered, only to find out they don't come with the nuts and have to put everything on hold until I got them in. Thanks all! |

The nuts are totally reusable from the prior bolt. The threads are the same.
