having fun with cops

It was around 2am yesterday and I took my car to an open parking lot with no other cars around so I can play around with the TRAC and VSC controls off.

Just when I was about to do some donuts I see a cop driving by with it's lights off so instead of risking the chance of getting a fine I decide to leave only to see the cop following me. i pull over and the cop asks what are you doing. I replied just trying to figure out how to get out this park and he says 'you're lying!!! have you drifted it around yet?" I was like "huh? um no still learning it haha"

then they start asking me what kind of car it so I said Toyota Scion FRS since I'm till not sure how to respond yet with the new badges. The cop says "let me go see you do some donuts" :eyebulge: I was like "ummm are you sure... you're not gonna bust me for reckless driving???"

"nahhh go ahead" so I was all like :D I actually wanted to try some other stuff but didn't want to push my luck. I guess some cops can be cool

Yeah, I've had the same situation before. My buddy was doing some donuts in his 350Z behind a Walmart in the middle of the night. Two cops showed up because they got called in. Made sure none of us had drugs, then watched us do it some more. :)

just curious - what can they bust your for besides reckless driving? I'm pretty sure the park is still open at that time, so invasion of private property wouldn't be one.

I would rather get busted for trespassing than reckless driving!?

Reckless driving ticket = jacked insurance....fuck dat yo.

Reminds me of an experience my sister's b/friend had. A cop pulled him over in his Carrera GT (over 600 hp). Last time they stopped him a few years earler it was because of no front plate.

Long story short, the cop let him off but...asked him to floor it as he merged to the highway so he could see/hear it!! :confused0068:

We've never had the same luck, the cops would always act real pissed and kick us out. Thankfully no one was ever cited. Oh, youth lol

same thing happened to me about 6 years ago in my 300zx when i first got it, except the cop rod with me in the passenger while i attempted to drift..and failed horribly. It was a bit odd. Till this day we still chat every once in a while and get some laughs. and he says im the only person hes ever done that with, so i was pretty lucky to meet a officer on duty on a good day.

Not sure how it works in other locales, but up here in Ohio, most parking lots are private property, and the police can't actually ticket for traffic violations unless there is a contract or something giving them the power to do so. Most of the time, they are just there to scare stupid kids off.

I was in a parking lot driving in circles with my STi one night trying to recreate a drivetrain clunk (at the time I didn't realize it was the DCCD set to full lock causing the noise) and two cops pulled up on me and gave me the third degree. Once they realized I wasn't some dumbass kid they nicely said it just wasn't a good place because of the parking lot's visibility and to get moving.

I've had some really nice/cool cops pull me over and give me a warning for speeding when I had my Evo IX, a few seemed genuinely excited about the car and were asking questions about how fast it is, how much power, reliability, how well it does in the snow, etc. Believe it or not, even cops can be car guys...

Thats far from the truth. If a cop sees you doing something stupid like donuts in a parkinglot you will get a ticket. And there are always traffic codes for these violations to fall into.

Parking lots are private property, but they are open to the public, that is why you can get a ticket. Cops do not need to be invited into public space if they witness a violation occuring.

Before you completely shut me down, keep in mind we live in different areas. For example, I know for a fact that I can't get a speeding ticket in a parking lot on private property (unless the limit is established by whatever city i am in, which doesnt happen on private property). The worst I have ever gotten was a stern talking-to when i blew through a stop sign in the lot (where there were absolutely no cars and the lot itself was virtually abandoned).

I've been pulled over a couple times on my GSXR for minor violations and the cops almost always say "thank you for stopping" and send me on my way. A little respect helps. I was a cop in the AF and if you were a **** it didn't matter what I pulled you over for you were getting a ticket but if you were cool and not putting others in serious danger I would typically let you off. Unless my supervisor was with me.

The cop got into your passenger seat??? that's a little awkward lol, I would have been under so much pressure and probably stalled haha.

It's funny how we can get away with this stuff since we have these "exotic" cars. I wonder if they would let us off if we had regular cars that they didn't care for haha.

Well it's a public park (parks and recreatino dept of the city) so is that still considered a private lot?
