2022 GR86 & BRZ RTV Issue Explained

For those of you who are curious about the RTV issue that's blown up on the 22 GR86 & BRZ, I've accumulated a lot of the info and added visuals to show why people are finding RTV on their dipstick, in their oil filters, and in their oil pickups. I'm a visual person so being able to see the beads of RTV after dropping the oil pan was beneficial.

Great info, thanks for the video. Good reassurance that they cover NASA events because I just finished my first one this weekend :bellyroll:. Hopefully a TSB/recall gets issued soon.

There will not be unless engine failures because of it become FAR more common than they currently are. Which is too say, not common at all.

Not sure why this idea of a TSB/recall continues to be brought up everywhere.

Between the GR and BRZ, there have been approximately 8000 sold for the 2022 model year.

I haven't followed this that closely. How many confirmed failures have there been because of this?

Only the factory can really explain it.

Why is that?

There were barely any failures of the valve spring that prompted the J02 recall. I don't think I had seen a single post on this forum about an actual valve spring failure.

There were two valve spring failures reported on here. The majority of the failures occurred in Crosstreks and Impreza's. There were only a couple of hundred of them reported which is a drop in the bucket considering the recall covered over 160,000 vehicles.

It took them 6 years from knowledge of the problem to issuing the recall for the valve springs so even if they do something people better not hold their breath.

Loads of good reading on the FACTS of the recall here for anybody else ambitious enough to actually go through it all.

Jeez... so many self-proclaimed experts scrambling for attention.

Video bothers me for a few reasons;
* says Subaru corporate denied Blake's warranty. False, dealership and local Toyota distributorship denied the repair. Toyota corporate rectofied that.

* says the warranty was denied because of Blake's participation in a test & tune picture and video. Heresay, that is the assumption. Nothing documented by the dealership supports this.

Just seems to be looking for views on a subject already beaten to death...

"I'm not including the the actual process of removing the oil pan in this video because it is a long enough video on it's own"

Opens and closes this video with clips of removing the oil pan. That 20 seconds more to show what was found would make this too long!
Mind you it was already too long about a minute in so I guess he has a point.

As I have said before I bet money shifts have taken out more of these cars (including first gen) than all the blocked pickups, bad recall work and any other actual defect put together.
Just rare that somebody actually admits it and not try to find a way to point the finger at the manufacturer.
