Catback exhaust opinions?
Hey all, I'm trying to decide what exhaust to install on my FR-S. I'm leaning towards the Greddy Evo3 or the ISIS from Enjuku racing, but I may wait for the TRD system if either of these will affect my ability to pass smog. I wouldn't think so, but if there's anyone that has experience with this I'd appreciate input.
Also, will installing an aftermarket exhaust affect my warranty? If it will, I may just wait for the TRD exhaust to become available and have my dealership install it. I really love how the Evo3 and the ISIS sound, though. :( Thanks! Kat |
TRD is the least hassle way to go ..
I'm hoping Evo3 gets CARBd mostly bc Greddy is such a big company I can see them going through the trouble of getting it CARBd Anything that has direct connection to the exhaust will void the warrnty of the part - but in all seriousness, not likely. There is no reason that the exhaust will damage any part of the car including the engine - it gets better airflow than the stock. [they could claim that the "back pressure is too much that it pulls out too much air from the combustion chambers and messes with the air/fuel ratios" but that seems like a load of bs] But if a dealer hates you for it, go to the next dealership for work. Some dealerships cares, others don't. TRD exhaust will be 100% hassle/haggle free. But I'm still waitin on the Greddy ;) edit: deleted the random 'for' lol |

I'm personally not too interested in the noise produced, I'm sure I'd like them all you know?
I'm more interested in the design and layout - the Evo3 is straight and super clean looking Y back. That's the design I'm looking for and Greddy finishing has got that name backin' them up! Supposedly its their better ones for this car too. Also considering how its a 2.75" it may be enough for a low boost turbo later on when I do boost too ~ |
I'm trying to keep myself from doing too much with this car besides exhaust and a few cosmetic mods; she's supposed to be my daily driver. I just want her to sound a bit more aggressive. Besides, I'm afraid if I start doing too much I'll end up with two cash sinks instead of one! I gotta save money for more parts for my FD. I want to be able to afford my 20B swap someday! :bellyroll:

haha i know what you mean.
good thing suby is pretty well known for good intakes - our exhaust piping is another story though ... so pretty much exactly all that's needed .. besides header and tune :P you should post pictures of your two babies together! |

Oh FD. I love thee so much.

I've heard the smog check will be simplified starting Jan 2013. No more emissions tests, just a visual and OBDII check - if you don't have any engine codes, pass. So I don't think any exhaust that retains the cat will have a problem. Cat back = after the cat, so should be fine.

The cat back part, yes. The smog part changing...I doubt it. But maybe this will pertain to newer cars. There are just too many older cars that would still need to have the stick in the pipe reading. Also they still have too many issues with people skirting the smog process. If anything it will get tougher.

if you read the story the simplified smog is for cars 2000 and newer. older cars still have to do the full tailpipe emissions test.
