GR86 Adaptive Headlights

Not having my car yet, I'm stuck searching the interwebs for answers.

I understand the adaptive headlights can turn left to right, but do they also follow the contours of the road up and down?

Headlights always seem like an afterthought of the car buying process until you need to use them.

No. Just L/R.

Same system used on the rest of the Subaru line up so just left and right. You get a weird light show each time you start the car as they both track out and then back in to line up.

I'm actually not happy about that feature on the BRZ Limited. They don't add much.

I had them on my 135i and turned the feature off because the headlight assemblies were $1900 PER SIDE, if they broke.

Oh, so it's electrically calibrated, not mechanical... for better or worse...

Yeah, this is a concern for me too, but <knocking on wood> I have yet to need any front-end repairs to any of my vehicles. On the 135i's I know the turn signal features are often turned off too :bellyroll:

The one on my wife's 18 Impreza was $2600. Luckily it was a warranty job.

Trying to understand this comment - pretty sure they are electrical and mechanical.

Think he means as opposed to the older style up and down auto adjuster that was just a mechanical linkage and levers.

I haven't owned a car with these before the GR.

I absolutely LOVE them. Ripping around freeway ramps they work extremely well, the response and accuracy is impressive and a lot of fun. On the old gen I would often turn my brights on while going around ramps hard, but these new lights work perfectly. I still would have bought the premium without this option as the 2 extra speakers/pilots+wheels/AMAZING seats/duckbill already sold me. So its like a bonus!

They are great on the back roads wen there isn't a light in sight.
That is until one ices up and permanently jams in the outboard position.

This seems like a good reason to keep the engine compartment piping hot.

WOT FTW.

"But officer, I was just defrosting my headlights."
"It's 104F out here."
"Can't be too careful!"

Honestly, I could go without them and not notice much of a difference. It's a cool party trick but the few times I've driven at night I don't really even notice it.

And yes, I live down windy back roads etc. Not in the city.
