Watch for Scammers Everyone
 

Hey fellow car guys, this forum is one of the best and most thorough resources for the 86 platform. I have purchased many things from this forum over the years and have had no issues. I recently was searching for an oil cooler or a radiator/oil cooler combo. I found one and contacted the seller. I received a response but the name was slightly different. I almost sent him money. Be aware of the name/handle that people are using. The real seller was much easier to deal with and sent me additional pics and info about the radiator I was buying. I would like to thank vfrqqq who was the real seller and was great to communicate with.:thanks::thanks::thanks:

Yeah I commented on the post for the Remark axleback someone has for sale about buying it and I've received PMs from 3 scammers now.

That's why I don't comment on things I intend to buy typically. Easier to PM them

There are anywhere from 5 to 30 probable scammer/bots/spammers registering every day here. There are 6 at this very minute.
If getting PMs always ALWAYS look at the person's profile. If they just registered or have zero posts be careful.
They will always try because they have been successful before!

How about the site admin / owner turns off messaging for a day old members.

Require at least 5 posts and 1 week long membership for private messaging.

Just adding to this here - I also received unsolicited / spam PM from a user named "Ads5" after commenting on a member classified ad directing me to contact the seller via a gmail address (when I know that is NOT the seller, who I did PM and got a reply from).

If there is some way within the back end of the forums to force a certain post count / membership duration before PM's can be sent as suggested above, that would be great!

It is rampant right now! The worst part is the scammers are using old real accounts so you can't even trust that since there are posts the person is real. There are 8 of them actively sending PMs right this minute. All the "users" have been inactive in years but suddenly show up and start PMing, viewing user details and want ads? I think not.

I've been reporting the PMs that have the gmail addresses in them and the accounts have been getting banned.

Yeah, so what? Are you PMing people who post WTB ads and telling them to email you at your personal gmail address?
