Charcoal intake filter removal testing & RESULTS
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fDVXAkrKDQE
If anyone wanted to see some actual data of what that extra EPA pad does or rather restricts. I know Engineering Explained did a video on his Crosstrek years ago but neat to see what it does specifically with the new FA24. I anticipated a larger % gain with the BRZ compared to the Crosstrek but it comes out pretty much the same, around a 4% gain peak from stock to removed. |
facts. nice
Another Maynard fan here. |
Makes sense. Japanese vehicles comes without charcoal filter and is rated at 232hp.

I think I'd pay for the JDM box, that way I'd have the unmolested stock USDM box in case I became inclined to swap it back in.
I had no idea the JDM car was rated for more horsepower. I wonder if there are other mechanical differences. I'm sure the tuning is different because of Japan's higher octane fuel. |
Same here, no charcoal filter in au.
Potentially the difference in the official engine ratings? |
Guy didn't tested in 5th gear (1:1 ratio), wouldn't that invalidate his results?

Even if the dyno didn’t take into account the gear ratios, you’re still getting a gain from baseline run.
And as for mike2100’s comment, I know us and eu octanes are the same just displayed differently. I would assume it’s the same and it’s more tuned for less emission restrictions vs a higher octane. (This could be very wrong) |
I'm not watching a 14 minute video.
Was there a tune added? Or is the claim removing this part adds this amount of HP. It seems a little hard to believe. |
