C&D comparison of GR86 and BRZ suspensions

Great breakdown of the differences between GT86 and BRZ suspensions. Stupid clickbait style title but good old school Bob Villa style informative.

Maybe I should have bought the BRZ instead lol. Less unsprung weight and this old back can’t daily the harsh setup on the 86

C&D doesn't have some sort of garage/lift set up at their disposal?

Who's got time for that when all you need is butt dyno, butt feel and access to a plethora of different cars that you can hoon all day, everyday?

Doing this on his driveway is kind of Dan Edmunds' thing. He's been doing it for years.

Good video.

Nice review. Good job.

Is it just me or are some of you gr86 owners also thinking of buying the alu front knucles to swap away our anvils?

The rear sway bar differences during track conditions is the one I would like to learn more about, unfortunately he did not cover in details.

Besides that, good review.

There is no way the aluminum knuckle saves 13 lbs per side, as said in the video.

Also, it's a little hard to compare ride differences (he says the BRZ is more supple) when one car is on 17" Michelin Primacy and the other is on 18" Michelin Pilot Sport 4.

If an aluminum knuckle weighs 8 lbs and is the typical cast aluminum density, then a cast iron part of the same exact volume would weigh 21 lbs, or 13 lbs more than the aluminum one. Iron is typically about 2.67X the density of aluminum.

Engineering to the rescue! Thanks for the scientific explanation. That is a significant weight savings and I'm surprised Toyota didn't want to also incorporate the aluminum knuckle.

The Al knuckles are a lot bulkier, so the weight difference isn't quite so big. User on here measured less than 4 lbs per side, though I saw elsewhere mentions of 6.5lbs which is where the 13 might have come from.

I was certain Subaru/Toyota did this 100% only to drive car forum people insane, as it seems the most significant tangible real-world effect. But knowing the ratio of BRZ to GR86 now (they're building 3-4X as many GR86) I'd guess it's just a cost play. I bet both were going to get it originally.

I'm gonna do it as soon as the car gets home, along with crash bolts.

When they did the track test was the same as what he essentially said. At the track the two cars behave the same, with the tuning differences seemingly converging when driven at the limit.

Its all opinion though, I'm sure there are a few different opinions out there that suggest that track driving they are different, but perhaps its just not as noticeable as the street stuff.
