Noise coming from the rear end...

This happens to me EVERY time I pull up my driveway, but only from one side. Basically, I need to slow down a LOT to pull up without scraping my front end. In doing so, when I go to pull up the driveway (VERY cautiously, with a bit of slip and VERY light throttle) the rear tires spin for a fraction of a second (Hardly a chirp), and a pretty horrid noise comes from the rear.

Not sure if it's the diff, or something related to the traction control, or both, but I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced anything similar. For all I know, it could be totally normal, I just want to be sure I'm not cooking my diff.

Is it a shuddering noise?

It'll be your VSC or trac control kicking in.

Mine does it every time going into my driveway cos it lifts a wheel front and rear.

Next time you go in, have your foot on the brake a bit and you'll feel it pulse as if its ABS'ing. your car is applying brakes to the wheels, thinking you have lost control, and trying to straighten the car up etc.

This is what I thought as well, but I tried disabling everything (Not sure I did that right :( I held the traction control for a few seconds until the "Trac off" and VSC lights came on) and it still did it. Did I maybe [most likely] not turn the Traction control off correctly?

I will try what you suggested though, if I can XD I'm gonna need a third foot.

I have all nannies in mine off most of the time, and if I pull into my driveway at the wrong angle it will lift a wheel. If I give it gas, the light in the gauge cluster will flash.

Im wondering if tcs & vsa can't be turned off completely.

my frs does the same thing...

I'm starting to feel that way as well...

watching the drift videos, im sure the systems can be disabled completely, otherwise that defeats the major purpose of the car

Fair enough, but then why all the noise XD

Bonburner 08-20-2012 07:00 AM

mine makes a lot of noise too, mostly wheels chirping :/
lol but on topic - not really sure what we're discussing .. did you check the other threads regarding the rear noises?
I personally go in at an angle but I don't get that ..
but then again i dont get a wheel in the air

Therein lies the difference. When I'm pulling in, I've got one tire clear off the ground.

Same here. I've started to go at my driveway from a different angle. I don't scrape and I don't lift a wheel, so obviously no shuddering.

This is probably going to become necessary for me as well. Sucks to need to turn around at the end of the street, but if it keeps that horrid noise from occuring, so be it XD

I actually just tried my driveway, with the trac and vsc off, and there is still an amount of chattering that comes from the rear end when it lifts the wheel!

I took a video, It coincides with the VSC/Trac light flashing on and off, Surely the car can have all the aids switched off? :S
