GrimmSpeed Post MAF Hose
Didn't see anything on this yet so I thought I'd post it. What are your thoughts on this? I'm used to cars where doing any sort of intake work is a net positive (if not for power for induction howl and throttle response), but I understand that the twins aren't necessarily like that, and that the stock intake is pretty well optimised already.
For the BRZ, two of my largest complaints are the lackadaisical throttle response low down, and how quiet the intake is, but I can't really see how this hose would make the intake any louder under load. https://www.grimmspeed.com/grimmspee...brz-toyota-86/ https://cdn11.bigcommerce.com/s-8fmm...489903.jpg?c=2 |
I've got mine on. There aren't many parts out yet, so I was happy about this one. I had one on my first gen as well. Does it drastically improve performance? No, but I imagine there is a small gain compared to the jagged factory tube. Plus, it does clean up the bay a bit.

I have it on mine now too, it's hard to tell if it's anything more than extra induction noise. In my internet opinion, lol, I do believe there has been some improvement.

Is it louder because it lacks the extra module that hangs below the stock tube? What looks to me like an external resonator maybe...

Just installed the grimspeed intake tube, k&n filter, and deleted the charcoal filter. Didn't notice any extra induction noise.
What I want to do next is get rid of the resonator to the left of the intake box. So far only Apex'i has the carbon snorkel which deletes the resonator but it's a bit steep. Anyone have any other options they know of? |

i plan on making a resonator plug to delete the box. i have a 3d printed prototype sitting in front of me right now that ill be installing today for test fitting purposes. Quote:
i do remember someone blocking it off on one of the facebook pages and mentioning it didnt make a noticeable difference in sound the best way to get any sound is to have an open air filter.. but that comes with a list of cons as well. |

if you have a link to those facebook posts showing the box delete, id appreciate it. Guess ill just wait for the HKS Racing Suction Intake to come out. |

Iirc he made his block off plate with some polycarbonate sheet and epoxy Because of the location, it doesn’t have to be completely sealed, cause it’s pre-MAF and pre-filter You can technically drill that rivet out and remove it if you want without any harm being done |
Perrin is supposed to be releasing theirs as well, soon. That one has internal, parallel reinforcing wires, front to back. Can't find the post that had the pictures, though.

Not invalidating your experience by any means - I just got mine installed and have a noticeably more aggressive sound from 3500 RPM’s and up, plus some classic cold air intake whoosh sounds on throttle tip in at idle. Don’t expect this really makes much power (if any), but definitely adds a little fun factor for me. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
It def adds some noise and I could hear that with the Perrin exhaust (granted not super loud). I'd imagine it's more pronounced with stock exhaust for obvious reasons. Didnt notice anything else though
