Experience. I've been doing this for a little while now.. You're less than 2mm away from a setup I personally tested that rubbed the strut badly..

Spacers, sure... But, you are already past the guards..

Camber? Camber will NOT help inner clearance..

Best of luck.. If you don't have any money involved test fit and find out for your own experience.. IMHO, 9.5 is way too wide.. But it's your ride. Only way I'd run that wide is if I purchased a wb kit.

Do not have any 16" 5x100 wheels at this time. They were mounted on some 16" rims, however I am unsure what the rest of the specs are as far as offset as I got them through a mechanic contact and he did all the legwork. They were for a Lancer GTS, my previous vehicle, which was 5x144 I believe. The rims are interesting though as it would appear they have two sets of holes. I am not sure that means it has two different mounting sizes or not or those other holes have another purpose....

I am not sure what the make and model of the rims are. Have looked through tire rack in hopes of finding the rims listed but have been unsuccessful so far. I imagine the offset is totally different between the lancer and the FRS, but figured I might just look into some steelies for the time being until I have really decided what to do about wheels in the future and may end up getting new winters the next year.

They might work if they are dual drilled, lots of wheels are 5x100/114.3
Do they not have the specs on the backside of the wheel?

As for the 9.5" question above...TiC is using 18x9.5 +30 wheels with 255s, so a +40 w/ 10mm spacer can be made to work. See their journal for more info (yes, camber adjustment needed).

So maybe 8.5" all the way round at +32?

I have two questions.

First. I have aftermarket wheels on right now, 17x8.5 +43 with 225/45s on. My backspacing is pretty close in the front, like half inch or less maybe. I am not lowered. Is there potential issues here if I lower it later and/or apply some camber?

Second. I am shopping a snow setup and have a set of 05 Legacy GT wheels available to me. They are 17x7 +55. I know they will tuck quite a bit, but does anyone know if they will have any backspacing issues if I run a 225/45, which is the only size available for the Michelin X-ice2s that I plan on buying. Or would it be more prudent to pay a little more and just get 16 inch steelies with a more narrow and taller tire (205/55)?

For the first question, lowering won't get the wheel any closer to the strut since they're mated together. Camber adjustment maybe.

For the second, I can't imagine you'll have an issue, but I haven't seen the interior clearance of the stock wheels. You're only talking about 7mm farther in. I used those same wheels on my WRX and I would think that Subaru would have made it compatible since that's also a common GC fitment.
