Break in procedures...
 

I know i might be opening a can of worms but my situation is a little bit different. As much as i have been around cars, this is my first brand new car hence i have never done a break in before.

At the end of the month, i will be taking delivery of my MY2022 BRZ but the dealership is 200kms (120miles) away. I can take the interstate (2 lanes divide hwy, 62 mph) or smaller undivided 2 lane (slower 55mph) home. I know that i am NOT supposed to keep a constant RPM throughout the trip home meaning i will have to vary my speed and shift between 4/5/6 for the drive home. For people that have bought cars out of town, how did you drive/break in your car for the commute home? As well, when did you guys do your first oil change? Did you change the filter as well?

There are a million different theories on this subject.
I drove the break in period in a couple of weeks. Did sort of halfway between the owner manual instructions and the guys that say drive the crap out of it. Didn't worry about speed so much but did vary the revs as much as was practicable without slowing enough people would slam into the back of me.

Oil is much the same. There is no good or bad reasons to do it early. I just stuck to the schedule for that.

My last new car, a 2013 WRX, I drove home on cruise control for 2 hours.
I traded it in with 105k miles on my GR86.
I had zero issues with motor durability, despite tracking it once, and autocrossing countless times, hard launching on every run.


Another post on here (don't remember where) put it bluntly, engine failures are generally not traceable to a poor break-in procedure.

Ignore all of us idiots on-line, and read and follow the owners manual.
