Lead in Oil
I received my Blackstone report from my last oil change. Lead was at 4ppm, which is indicated as a little high (3627 miles on oil). They indicate that lead usually comes from bearings, but that they understand this engine has aluminum bearings. Is that true? Other wear metals looked good. The report indicated that maybe the lead was from leaded fuel or additives, neither of which we use. I have a sample from my last change that I did not send in, but I think i will to see if this was a one off situation.
Any thoughts from anyone about the possible source of lead? Is there anything in the engine it could come from? Thanks. |
Pretty sure all has a little lead in it. I'm sure Google can verify that

Happened to me. The source was just filling a couple of gallons of race gas (with lead), enought to come in the blackstone report.

I wouldn't sweat it over one test that is marginally over the norm. If it is still over on the next test it would be more concerning. You can get small amounts of lead from the solder joints, anti seize and other similar sources. |
