substitution for opticoat?

I've been looking for some place to do opti-coating for my BRZ. Problem is I'am having an issue finding a place to do it. The nearest 2 shops I can find doing it is 3 hours away for one. He says he would need to keep the car over night so it can properly cure before i would be able to drive it home. So would have to get a hotel for the night. And the guy just didn't really seem that interested in doing the job. Other is 4-5 Hours away havent contacted them but still 4-5 hour drive for opticoating really worth it?

Now i've heard nothing about amazing things about opticoat and only complaint I've heard is about water spots. Would just general maintenance every weekend and waxing regularly be a good substitution for opticoating? Doing it my self i wouldnt be to comfortable doing cause of the fact if the car isnt perfect before applying it those swirl marks or any marking in the paint will always be there under the opticoating.

Any opinions?

Hm...

I just ordered an opticoat and wash the car throughly. If I'm not satisfied with the look of the car after washing it, I wont apply the opticoat and plan to have a professional detailer apply it for me and just give em the coat.

Otherwise, I think you can do it yourself and get reasonable results if you're careful with it and clean the car properly. Use IPA (15% - 25%) just to clear it from contaminants and helps it dry a bit prior to applying the coating.
