I have a '13 FR-S with a headunit from a 2020 model. This one ( https://www.ft86club.com/forums/atta...1&d=1619047883 )

Also have a GT86 Steering Wheel with the buttons that work too but not sure that matters.

To my understanding, the back up camera hooks up to the rear view mirror on 2020 GT86s? Or do they also hook up to the middle head unit?

I'm trying to figure out a way to add an OEM back up camera to the car. I can buy an oem camera from ebay or a junkyard but I assume a harness will be needed. Anyone every done this?

Yeah the rear camera on the 2020 is in the mirror.

Apparently the 2020 head unit does have a connection for a rear camera. Im not sure what kind of wizardry and wiring shenanigans are involved though.

This thread is probably the best source of anything related to this head unit.

I actually have a 2020 radio in my 2013 FR-S, but it's the Subaru head unit. that radio has an additional 5 pin connector that works for the back up camera. there is also room to add camera signals to the 28 pin connector.

for the 28 pin connector.

Pin 2 reverse signal
pin 11 backup camera power
pin 12 back up camera signal (+) center of coaxial cable
pin 13 back up camera signal (-) grounded shield of aftermarket cable

most aftermarket camera will take power from the reverse lights, meaning you don't need pin 11. you will also need to run a signal wire for reverse. which also taps off of the reverse lights.
I found a 28 pin connector in a u pull is yard and I de-pinned a few connectors to have pigtails for adding connections.
I used the aftermarket camera below, only problem is it point down too far.

What was the process like for getting the 2020 Subaru head unit to work? I had a 2013 FRS with the 2020 86 head unit and that was 99 percent plug and play besides adding a jumper harness in the trunk. I acquired another 2013 as a project and I’m curious how the Subaru radio works with it
