Is there any value in an OEM taillight with cracked outer clear lens?
Works but just the clear outer lens is smashed.
|
Hold onto it. Will likely become collectible in a few years.
|
Can they be repaired? If I can replace the outer lens, I will do it and save it for the next guy that gets rear ended.

But, I've read that people bake off the lens and replace it ?
|
yes you can do that but good luck with ensuring a water tight seal. look up the many threads on here where folks have reported moisture inside the lens after opening their headlights/tailights.

the parts you're reading are in reference to headlamps that typically use butyl rubber as a sealant that can be softened with heat and can be easily opened. the shorter answer is that there's really no benefit to replacing the lens. lenses aren't sold separate from housings, so one must buy a complete replacement housing anyways. and there's nothing custom/unique/different about the oem tails that justifies the double expense or the labor for the work. |
Ok, I will remove the 2 bulbs and toss the housing.
