Should I Lose The Bags?
Hey all!
Read the sticky on "how to screw up your cars handling and ride", and I am trying to figure out what the best next step would be. I got my '13 BRZ last year and the previous owner had Airlift 3P (Air ride suspension) installed. The novelty of it ended a while ago, and at this point I'm trying to figure out if I A) Should get more familiar with the system and make the best of it or B) Replace the suspension. The biggest issue I'm currently having is not having a real baseline of how the car should handle. I've adjusted the ride height and dampers as the previous owner had the car feeling very very bumpy (Not unlike a waterbed) but to be honest...I don't know what I'm doing. So my current thoughts are to find people using Airlift in a similar way as I will be and picking their brains OR lose the bags so that I can be on system that has a wealth of knowledge and resources for me to learn from. Any tips/thoughts are greatly appreciated! |
What's your goal for the car? Daily driver, fun back roads, autocross, track?
How much do you enjoy being low? Any other suspension mods? What's your wheel and tire situation? - Andrew |

Being low looks cool, but more and more I'm finding myself think "but is it functional? Does it enhance or inhibit?" I installed Whiteline Endlinks, but other than that and the airlift suspension, everything else is stock. Riding 225/40r18 BFG g-force comp 2 a/s, on Enkei NT03+M 18x9.5 +40mm. These are holdovers from the previous owner. |

Thanks for the suggestion! You actually got my mind thinking...I wouldn't be opposed to picking up stock suspension components to replace the airlift system, selling it, and using those funds for the Billys/RCE springs.
This would require me to do the same job twice, but this falls onto my 'I have more time than money' side of things. |
Try to meet up with another BRZ driver close to you with a stock setup, and see if they will swap keys for a half hour or so. See what you like and dislike about the stock setup. That might be a good starting point for you.
