Jong's 2nd Gen BRZ

Decided to start a journal on my 22 Sapphire Blue BRZ as I realized I don't have many pictures from my previous cars.

This car ended up replacing a 2019 TRD 86 that I drove for a couple of years (and loved). Before that, I was in a 09 Honda Civic Si 4 Door (FA5). I felt that each car was an upgrade over the other, the FA5/K20 was great, but nothing replaces the feeling of RWD.

Replacing one shitbox with another.

Had a great experience at Orange Coast Subaru on Black Friday weekend. Carvana was offering bonkers money for the 19 and I was able swoop up a Sapphire Blue Limited that a customer had backed out on.

Drove like a grandma for the first 800~ish miles, then ended up letting the boys at Remark test fit their R1-Spec catback and rip on the car (video below).

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ha4dHHhJZ6g

Got an Oil change at 1K miles with the complimentary maintenance at Orange Coast Subaru. Car's currently at 3000 miles and 0 complaints. Such a huge upgrade over the first gen.

Since that time I've gotten all the suspension components installed and dialed in. Car is currently at -2.7 camber in the front with ~-2.5 in the rear. Was also able to get a Remark Elite-Spec Catback Exhaust system installed (Sound clip below):

Swapped the seat out at the ~1k mile mark. My favorite interior mod so far

Got rid of the airbag light by using a simple 2.2 watt resistor (found the guide on these forums). Removes the need for knee pads and I sit what seems like at least 2-3 inches lower than before.

Any of you GR86 Premium owners in SoCal looking to trade their grey accented seats/interior trim pieces for mine (red accents)? Looking to get the red out of mine if possible.

The white wheels look great on with that shade of blue

Irace86.2.0 04-05-2022 01:45 AM

Agreed. Nice looking BRZ. I was thinking the GR86 was better, but that BRZ is looking just as solid now. That blue on white wheels is a great combo. The exhaust, lowered and tucked rear shot is excellent.

Thanks! Liking this color combo a lot more than my previous gen (black).

Appreciate it - TBH I still prefer the GR86 front end, but like you said, the BRZ grows on you.

 k20 master race!

I don't normally like dark blues on cars but this looks great...

Also damn, that seat looks tiny!

I generally noticed that when the 22 BRZ is properly lowered, it looks much improved on the front end for whatever reason. I believe with its stock height, the front end looks a little thin and odd on the BRZ, while the GR86 has a larger grille, giving it a bit of a "taller" look if that makes any sense? Also these are just really nice shots and angles, can't deny that!

Couple updates!

Interior CF bits:
https://i.imgur.com/KsM8Q0R.jpg

Ordered Reman'd STi brembos F+R (2014 STi).

https://i.imgur.com/OsKutqK.jpg

Waiting for the rear to come in. Also picked up some DBA 4000 F+R slotted rotors, StopTech SS brake lines, and getting hooked up with some DBA SP500 pads for now (hopefully some project mu CR's in the future, but I've been enjoying a brake squeal-less life).

Hoping to get it installed next week, will post part #'s if everything goes smoothly.

jongers 05-09-2022 02:32 AM

Bought some high temp brembo decals off amazon. The smaller sized ones didn't fit well with the rear calipers, so I ended up just using one of the included logo stickers.

https://i.imgur.com/fdcEHyq.jpg

The rest of the items
https://i.imgur.com/QDJPCnP.jpg

Going to spray a couple cans of caliper clear coat tomorrow and hopefully install later this week (still need to pick up some brake fluid).

villainous_frx 05-09-2022 03:20 AM

DBA T3 are the business, nice build so far!

jongers 05-10-2022 10:54 PM

Looks like 14 STi Calipers Front and Rear were a direct fit! My buddy handled the install as I sat around watching youtube on my phone until the blakes needed to be bled.

Again, list of parts used:

14 STi Brembos from RockAuto (F+R)
DBA 4000 T3 Front Rotors (1st gen w/ PP Brembo Sizing)
DBA 4000 T2 Rear Rotors (1st gen w/ PP Brembo Sizing)
StopTech Stainless Steel Brake Lines (F + R for 1st gen)
DBA SP500 Pads

Only thing I needed to replace were the caliper bolts - had to make a quick run to O'Reilly's at 10PM to pick them up. Link to the bolts.

You'll also want to relocate the bleeder valve on the front calipers.

Fronts:

Rears:

Installed:

https://i.imgur.com/4gerUON.jpg

Will have to report in later on how I feel about the changes. This apparently messes up the brake bias by 4% towards the front.

Any clearance issues with the knuckle?

Zero issues. It was a direct bolt on except for the caliper bolts I mentioned above (stock has a 1.25 mm thread pitch - the STi brembos require a 1.5)

Yoshoobaroo 05-22-2022 08:47 PM

The fitment looks excellent with the Volks. How's your wheel clearance on the outside and inside with that width and offset? Did they fit with stock suspension or were the coils too wide on the stock springs? Do you have any shots parallel to the sidewall so we can see the tuck/poke?

Thanks.

They barely fit on the inside with the stock rear struts

Don't have many good pictures, but here's some photos when it was still on stock suspension. A bit of poke without any drop/camber.

Update on the STi brembos - Everything's felt great with the upgraded pads/rotors/calipers. Haven't noticed much of a difference in the brake bias, but definitely a huge improvement in initial bite and overall stopping power. Dealing with some random squeeling at low speed braking. Also, the amount of brake dust with the new combo is making the white wheels look hideous .

Buddy of mine was getting rid of his seats and I was able to get a RS-GK for the passenger side! The bank account hurts, but interior symmetry inc .

Now, time to see if the nagisa passenger side rails or evasive rails are in stock.

Passenger seat installed + Christmas light dash activated!

https://i.imgur.com/TQtr9U7.jpg
https://i.imgur.com/hNj7cR4.jpg

Going to pick up a resistor and get it installed later.

I'm thinking that due to the passenger seat sensor, I might run into some issues. Hoping to avoid having to lift open the seat cover and peel off the sensor/membrane.

jongers 06-29-2022 01:47 AM

Quick update w/ the Passenger Side SRS/Airbag Light after seat install.

The same 3.3 ohm 1 watt resistors I used for the driver's side did not get rid of the lights. The passenger seat is still causing my dash to light up with warning messages.

Not looking forward to tearing apart the stock passenger seat to get the seat sensor + heating pad if this requires the same fix from the first gen.

If anyone has any suggestions, TIA.

It sucks im 1st gen but could never get my light to go away from the passenger seat. And yes I tore apart my stock seat to take out the butt sensor and put a seatbelt filler in the female recepticle. I eventually just took out the speedometer and put a piece of black tape over the light

Your seats look great by the way

Thanks! Bummer. I don't really wanna tear up my stock seat so I might look for a seat from a wrecked car in the future to experiment on.

Sadly, the way the SRS error is displayed on the LCD that is shared with vehicle information (temps, mpg, manageable screen) means the black tape fix won't work.

Maybe this is an excuse to get a MoTec in the future!

Last time I'll be washing an uncoated car!

Got an appointment to get the car coated with Gyeon (Infinite base type 2 + Infinite top coat) from a local detailer next week. Hopefully the car will only require a 1 step correction, but we'll see how that goes. Had Ceramic Pro (silver) on my previous black 86 and the minor protection it provided coupled with the ease of maintenance made it well worth it.

Will also be product testing (getting free partsssssssss) some FLCA this week :happyanim:

  • Won an auction on yahoo japan for some aero - hoping that it arrives by the end of the month!
  • Got the car ceramic coated with Gyeon Infinite Base + Infinite Top Coat after a 2 step paint correction.
  • Wheels: Removed the red SL stickers and ordered some Blue OG stickers. Also replaced the red valve stem caps with blue ones.

What were your alignment specs? And I'm assuming you had to trim the rear quarter at that height?

Yes - had my rear quarters trimmed (including the inner black fender plastic) before I dropped the car since I was transferring over 9.5+40 from my gen1.

Before RUCA I had around -3.2 camber in the rear in order to avoid poke and having a moderate drop (photos in the beginning of the thread).

After RUCA I'm sitting at about -2.3 camber in the rear and I was able to safely tuck the tires for a somewhat "flush" fitment.

Have some friends borrowing my car for subiefest this weekend - they were kind enough to drop the pan for me today.

Not as bad as others, but you can definitely see the grey/orange/yellow rtv in the filter. Glad I was able to get this done - hate the fact that I paid 45 bucks for the OEM RTV.

Replaced the Remark Elite Spec Catback with an Apex'I N1 Evolution Single Exit.

Night and day difference with volume/drone. I'd say the Apex'I is closer to stock than it is to the Remark exhaust I had before.

Was able to get a good deal on the Greddy/Voltex diffuser and I've always loved the styling on other cars like Evo's and S2K's.
