timurrrr's GRRRR86
Let's try this "journal" thingy!
Will first catch up on stuff that's already happened. |
Here's the write-up of the buying process.
The car had 7 miles on the odometer the first time I started it, and after my test drive the odometer reading that went into the contract was 11 miles. Quote:

First mod on the first day! :bonk:
On the way back from the dealer, stopped by at a friend who already got a GR86 Base in Neptune Blue, and we swapped the trunk spoilers. He wanted the GR ducktail, I wanted to get rid of it as it was a bit too much to my taste. My car is the dirty one, because I told the dealer not to wash it after delivery ;) The swap was fairly easy: https://i.imgur.com/WE1a9Ig.jpg https://i.imgur.com/xJIMzf2.jpg https://i.imgur.com/V1orqVw.jpg This video by 86Speed was a great to refer to: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZjmP7lQjlcM Pro tip: pay attention to those small rubber washers under the middle 6 studs. Ask us how we know. |
Drove ~160 miles back from the dealer on day 1, and only drove another ~200 since then.
Had a flight out of town on day 2 and didn't get to drive the car much yet... Trying really hard to take all the detours possible, but there just aren't enough days I can drive it! The car came in right between a few of the other events I already booked, and some of the track parts for the GR86 aren't ready yet, so doing those events in my 2017 BRRRRZ. Once those events are done in mid-April, I will finally have time to start putting on what I already have! In the meantime, I put the cozy GR86 carpet mats on the floor (car came with all-weather rubber trays) and a handy cargo net in the trunk. Went for a nice drive on one of my favorite local roads (Hwy 35 in Santa Cruz mountains) and thoroughly enjoyed the car!
The stock suspension is plenty stiff, while the gear shifts are much smoother (IIRC the 2022's had some fancier flywheel?). Didn't rev it out much, but it definitely has a lot more punch than my near-stock gen.1, especially when I'm going in 3rd gear at 2nd gear speeds. Also took some time to get used to heel-toe'ing without the Verus pedal spacer that I had on my gen.1, and thinking maybe I'll keep the pedal box stock for now. Reached exactly 500 miles on the odometer, so half of the break-in is done! Lowlight: experienced my first "hyperblink" at ~480 miles on the odometer, and got probably 17 more hyperblinks in the later 20 miles :\ |
Finally got my personalized license plates!
It took DMV 1.5 months longer to make the plates than it took me to buy the car :bonk: https://i.imgur.com/5FjJ6ko.jpg?1 Reached 937 miles on the odometer, I guess I'll be changing oil next weekend. Only hyperblinked a couple of times since the last post, however caught other electronics gremlins, including the infamous "something something correct time" error message on the head unit while trying to use Android Auto. It was accompanied by first stopping any music playback (via AA or radio) and instead hearing a faint white noise. Pressing the volume knob (mute) would stop the white noise, but I couldn't recover music playback during my short drive. After I parked the car for a couple of hours and started it again, everything was back to normal. |
