SCCA XSA thread

Anyone else running this class besides me?

JoeS 03-30-2022 11:21 AM

I am.... I have a supercharger which was putting me in SM with all the gutted cars with mine being a daily driver. XSA is pretty slim though. Last year I ran NSPAX with the XSA index and found that worked well.

That was what I wanted to avoid because before i totaled my engine everyone locally left stx. I didn't what to run slicks or have to cage up. So I'm just standard STX build but now with a JRSC and a c38 hbp.

TIL this class exists. I'm a little shy of an STX build, but with a C30 supercharger. I'm purely running for fun, but had SM and TO letters cut and delivered at the start of the season.

I don't think I've seen a car at any of the local events in an SX class, but I'll keep an eye out.

XA/XB were created as a "CAM for everyone" supplemental class in order to help people get away from the restrictive rules of the regular classes but for some reason it seems like most regions really haven't embraced the class like the they have CAM. I still see instances of new people being thrown into SP/Prepared classes instead of XA/XB because of some random mod which can be frustrating and cost the club potential new members.

It looks like the timing sort of sucked - lots of info was missed as COVID consumed the new cycle, and a rather fringe SCCA classification probably didn't make the cut. The SCCA post announcing it was January 2020.

I applaud them for expanding to FI kits and still separating the daily driver builds from more dedicated racecars. Hopefully we see the class grow.

FWIW, there are some XS* cars here in the DC region, the DC Tour has 9 in XSA, including Brian Karwan in his 86. We usually had a few in XSA and B at events last year.

Here in the Ohio Valley Region we've had decent subscription to Xtreme Street.

Fun fact: The SCCA started the class in 2020 and abbreviated it as XSA and XSB. About half way through the season they seem to have changed it to just XA and XB. In our region we had a local "class" that was for region members only and was just a straight PAX index class for the drivers. We (my predecessors) had designated it with an "X" but that got thrown out the window when the SCCA changed the designation for Xtreme Street. :bs:

Anyway, it's just XA and XB now apparently.

I missed last season with an exploded engine but both NEPA and Susuquehanna both have strong XS classes, but I dont think anyone is trying to "break" the class. Just some people trying to go fast

I thought so too. You're also right that they have not updated the ruleset but, as indicated, they did it in a FasTrack update.

He won't have the 86 ready in time for the tour.

Has anyone swapped their rear diff? I was thinking getting an is350 in 3.7 but they are pretty rare. Looking to see what others have done
