Hmmm 1980 eh? I had real big block V8 sounds to play with on an actual dragstrip in 1980.

It wasn't until 1986 for me, but I had a small block v8 Oldsmobile Rocket 350. Sadly it was fitted in one of the ugliest packages it could have been - a 1976 Cutlass Supreme - white with a fading blue fake convertible top. EWwwwwww... Of course, it was fitted with the best aftermarket stereo I could afford from Crutchfield from my lawn mowing/caddying money at the time (at least that Mom would let me spend). I'm convinced that both doors on that coupe weighed more than my GR86. Got thirteen miles to the gallon (if I was lucky), but when you pushed hard on the accelerator, you could almost feel the carburetor open up and just dumping gas into the cylinders.

It still pisses me off that my sisters got to drive a silver 1969 Chevy Caprice Classic - now that car had style.

In 1985 I did some plumbing work for an old guy that had a 69 Capri Classic in his garage. He said he rarely drove it and with about 12,000 miles on it I believed him. I tried to buy it off him but he said he still needed it once in a while. About a year later I went back and the car was gone. He thought it was junk so scrapped it. I highly doubt it made the pile at the wreckers!

Thank you for that. And the car too! Indeed, a good looking car especially when compared to the Cutlass Supreme ugliness. As for the one above, a buddy of mine had one in green (darker than that I think) that was a convertible and was in mint condition. Now THAT was a cool car...

A girlfriend from my days long past had a yellow 69 Caprice in outstanding condition. Yellow with black top if memory serves. I got to drive it half way across the country. Nice ride.

LOL. My 69 Cutlass with a 502 could set off all the car alarms along the street, should i chose to do so.
