Light Weight Seats
Has anyone done this to shed some tonage from the cockpit? The stock seats are quite heavy.
Are there any seats out there that would be street legal (safety equipment)? |
Bringing this thread back from semi-dead.
Anyone using articulating (folding) aftermarket seats yet? I need to still be able to use the back seat area for my little one's kid seat, but looking ~25lbs or so w/ sliders/mounts etc. |
You could just replace the drivers seat with a fixed back ultra light weight one and leave the passenger seat alone.
|
I did some research on this. At first search all the ones I found with the movable back were over 30lbs so while this could be lighter than stock, its not near the min weight especially once you add seat rails. If/when I do the race seat, I'll just swap out before the event. At this point I have little motivation as I really do like the stock seats and will do the battery, finish the exhaust, and tune first. Also, if you haven't already, get the pulley. I was skeptical but after getting mine, I'm a believer.

I actually have a pair of 9.6lb CF Tillets, but they don't articulate--so they're gone (too pricey to keep them sitting around for occasional use @ the big events). I remember looking into this for my last car, and went with them because the car was crazy heavy, and I needed all the weight out I could get.
|
Those Tillets are nice seats but $$$. The fixed back Sparco seats I have left over from another build are about 20lbs for the seats and the fixed brackets are about 4-5lbs.

I love my cobra seat, just hasn't put one in the fr-s yet.
But cobra makes the milano which is a lightweight reclinable seat. 13Kg. |
Expensive but nice. The closest affordable seat I found was the Sparco R100. 26lbs.

I have seen lots of rails on ebay and few on retailers, all generic but should easily work with the big brands I would think.

Saw Takata just came out with this seat, couldn't find any weights for it but it's made out of CF and meant to be lightweight so probably not too much.
http://www.takataracing.com/products/drift-seat $2100 though. |
I had originally gone with omp sliders + planted seat bases + status side mounts and status seats. The seats them selves are light weight but the sliders and bases were really heavy, the combo weighed more than the stock seat. So i decided to have a fabricator mount these to the floor and now they weigh close to nothing. BTW dont get reclining seats if you plan to track your car.
Here is my setup: http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...CA53EE712E.jpg |
Holy crap, $2100 each. I guess I'm cheap. I'll do a fixed 18lbs seat for $400ea first.
