SOS button and Remote Services not working

I turned on Remote Services in the app, which says to now push the SOS button in the car to proceed. The SOS light is green, but pushing it does nothing. It doesn’t do anything in the car or the app. I have a technical assistance email submitted to Toyota but wondering if anyone has been through this.

My past experience with the Toyota app is that it’s buggy and with my 2021 4Runner almost useless. I have little confidence in it.

I’m following directions like a person who is not an idiot and it just doesn’t work. SOS also does not do what it’s supposed to in order to enhance security as it is designed. Disappointed.

I also get an error message trying to update the car’s software, but that’s another issue. I’m hoping to get it working because the head unit is cutting out CarPlay in the middle of calls and making a mess of my conversations.

have you verified that the system wasn't part of the 3g sunsetting?

2022 car and iPhone 11. Not an issue.

The 2022s are not part of the 3G system rollback.

Mine worked fine when I set mine up at the dealer. Maybe its a coverage area thing, rather than a network generation thing?

Just FYI regardless of phone, the System in the car uses AT&T cellular. If you have very poor or no coverage where you are, remote services wont work.

But a single quick press of either interior console button should activate the telematics and it should show on the radio screen attempting to connect. Don’t press and hold.

Ok I figured out a fix after getting nowhere with Toyota. I held the SOS and blue Information buttons down out of desperation and it finally called Toyota. They got my account going and Remote services work now.

So it was just an account issue not a hardware one?

No, it was something about the SOS not activating by using the correct button.

I thought you are supposed to long press it? Isn't that what the manual says?

You’re supposed to hold it down up to 30 seconds, which didn’t work for me.

30 second hold on "i" button and talking to that support worked for me.
