Spring valve exhaust options?
Spring valve exhaust options? Are there any exhausts that are spring loaded in which the valve opens under pressure or when you hit the accelerator? I’m looking for an exhaust where the valves open under load. Any options out there?

Any names? Who makes exhausts like that?

I've seen the ones that work with gravity.
May be able to retrofit a spring. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N6EurZy0ZYg |

Am I missing something? Why is everyone making jokes?
I have 124 Abarth with the Record Monza Exhaust that opens and closes under pressure. I absolutely love the way it sounds, It has zero drone. With an 86 on order, I was looking for something similar where its not loud or droning on the freeway but when you punch it its very nice. If I am explaining things in a rudimentary or silly way I apologize, I am not sure where the jokes come from, or what they are referencing. Just wanted some advice. Im only looking for Axelback. |
Two reasons: 1, it's the internet and B, you can search this very website to find similar questions and answers.
The short answer is "yes" The slightly longer answer is "Yes, you can add a bypass into your existing exhaust or most any after market exhaust that works either mechanically or electronically. People have been doing it to their cars for decades." I don't think a ton of people here have done it though because in the end we're still talking about a four cylinder motor. Going straight-pipe is going to mostly sound obnoxious and will offer very little performance gain. |
Depending upon the noise ordinances in your particular jurisdiction you may also be rewarded with a fine courtesy of the local constabulary.

Terminology is what got me I guess.
Waaaay back in teh day it used to be called exhaust cut outs and they were usually flat plates you could unbolt once you got to the dragstrip or dry lake so you wouldn't be arrested on your way there. The new ones mostly seem to be electronically controlled for ON / OFF. Hadn't heard of spring controllers like a turbo blow off for exhaust. Hadn't been following Abarth. I suppose with a semi-weedy small displacement engine it would work sort of. An extremely stroked big block could be annoying at anything above idle. Probably even worse warming it up in the garage. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.thi...59bd06d9db.jpg |

Looks fairly simple. get a Mr. Gasket cutoff and replace the cable with a BOV spring of whatever weight pleases you most.
