Lightweight battery options for daily driver
 

Anyone change out their stock battery for something lighter yet? What battery and mounting solutions have you come up with?



I slightly scrape on my driveway and am fixing this by getting taller tires and reducing battery weight. Hopefully this will be enough to stop it from happening.

Not sure if it will help with scraping but I replaced my battery with an anti-gravity LiFePo4 and saved like 30 lbs.

I'm serious lol. It's a poorly designed neighborhood easement that I have no control over fixing.

The cheapest and best solution would be getting curve ramps like BRIDJIT or just make a quick trip to your Lowe's / H.D and get a wood plank.

This, or just try a different angle of approach. The gen 1s are cars that scrape surprisingly little for their right height. It's likely true for gen. 2s, if you're scraping then most other non-SUV drivers are too, there's probably a way :-)

Alright good idea. I ordered some rubber curve ramps and will talk to the neighbors about bolting it into the concrete so nobody else walks off with them. Hopefully the city doesn't have an issue with it.


I still plan on getting a lighter battery as I have another vehicle needing a battery replacement that I'm tossing the OEM battery into. Since it's a warm climate here I'm thinking the Deka ETX-30L may be enough.



When I originally tried that it worked okayish without a passenger, but an occupant was enough to make it scrape a bit. Neighbor's porsche scrapes too as did my prior infiniti. An old friend's challenger didn't scrape, but the car got stuck going over the hump in the middle. It's a terrible easement.

Step 1-Measure ride height.
Step 2-Remove battery and spike on ground, preferably concrete or asphalt.
Step 3-Measure ride height.
Step 4-Realize difference is negligible.

Not only will the lightweight battery make no difference in your ride height, today's vehicles have heavy electrical loads. Not sure I see the value in reduced battery capacity (as is likely going to be the case with a 'lightweight battery') for street use. Guessing there are many, many better ways to spend your money..

I’ve had an odyssey pc680 for 3+ years now, cheaper and almost 15# lighter then stock iirc. Stock lasted a little over five years, this looks like it’ll get me too 4 no problem. No trickle charger or anything, has sat for a week and fired up no problem. Caveat my car has only rarely been below freezing temps overnight.

I used the Japanese tie downs, $30-$40 and waiting a month for shipping, if you’re crafty you could probably do it easier and better fitting, it sill looks like I have the “wrong” size battery but it’s held firmly in place.

And per above your ride height change will be hundredths of an inch at best taking 10-20# off the front.

I am running the PC680 as well. They are tough batteries. I am at about 4 years on mine too.

The anti-gravity battery is standard group 35 size and actually 1500 cold-cranking amps MUCH better than stock. Weighs like 20lbs less than stock too. It's also smartchip controlled. The only downside is the $800 pricetag absolutely better in all other performance measures.

i know only weirdo's do this, anymore, but...

have you tried backing into your driveway?

my rear bumper never scrapes. my front bumper does, but only at high approach speeds when i'm showing off to the neighbor kids..

Good idea. This would certainly work since I only scrape coming in. If the rubber ramps don't pan out I'll likely do this.
