Has anyone changed out the factory speakers yet in their '22 BRZ? looking to see if pix were taken as to how the panels were removed before I go head first into it, lol.

I referenced videos for 1st gen and yes, much the same. I am starting the process of gutting the interior for soundproofing and speaker/amp upgrades. Pry tool at the front and lift. There are three hooks across the back that hold it down close to the windshield. The door speaker mounts don't match anything aftermarket that I can find. I took a big breath and started harvesting brackets off the OEM speakers to mount aftermarket speakers. I'll see if I have some pics of the limited progress I have made. Love to see your progress.
Attached pics are a Perfect 300 with the tabs cut off so it could fit in the "reclaimed" plastic part of the OEM bracket. Epoxied together. Nothing like cutting up new OEM and aftermarket parts to Frankenstein them. Second is the woofer from a Perfect 600 set once again in the stock plastic bracket with standoffs epoxied in place to used the tabs. |
looks identical to 1st gen.
i just made my own adapter plates. spray painted MDF for the doors, plexiglass for the dash https://live.staticflickr.com/3774/1...02ff8e75_k.jpg https://live.staticflickr.com/7339/1...31a46fc7_k.jpg |

i don't recall that i had any complaints about them, but wanted to try the then-new dayton AMT tweeters. they were tonally flat, with some unspecific oddball reflections from the glass. after that, i went with the dayton point-source ps95-8 3.5" drivers to attempt to bring more midrange presence upwards in the sound stage. kept it it that way for quite a while, either age or time (either the equipment or my ears) made it seem like they lost some brilliance that i was suddenly craving on the high end. so the most recent change is to peerless xt25sc90-04 ring radiator tweeters. they've got the brilliance i was looking for, with the smoothness of the daytons. i'm happier with the peerless over the AMT's, and the point sources. for now ;) |
hell yeah. good looking out. im debating looking for something new or using what i already have (CDT MX-2)

i've strayed far away from car audio tweeters, i find most car audio designs too focused on space constraints instead of audio quality. moved more towards designs with a rear chamber to lower resonant frequency, with more neutral tones.
despite the price being about $30/tweeter higher than i prefer, next on my list is the CSS LD22. it ticks a lot of boxes-- flat response, different design, obscure company... |
