Header to Over Pipe
 

Hey guys. First time poster. Just installed my tomei expreme headers. Ran into a bit of an issue. For some reason my over pipe doesn't reach the header and I am bit stuck on what I should do. I am thinking about getting a C-Clamp (Tightening it) and seeing if that will fill the gap. Anyone else have any ideas? I was able to get everything else bolted down to the block without issue. I just for some reason think the front pipe is getting sucked back into the exhaust.

To add I have an INVIDIA Gemini (R400) Dual tip exhaust. Stock overpipe and front pipe.

Sans the header, you want everything loosey goosey when swapping exhaust. That isn't a thread worthy gap... take your time and work through all the junctions and tighten/align as you go back and forth.

Since you're already down there... ditch the burlap sack and metal zip ties.

Got ya. So loosen the bolts on the block and then tighten everything one by one. I get what you're saying. Any thoughts on using the c clamp?

You may need to massage the front pipe bracket on the transmission a bit. By massage I mean bend forward.

I once ran into a similar issue on an aftermarket front pipe to overpipe connection. Even bolted down, that connection never fully sealed until I had a muffler shop extend the front pipe by 1/2". No leaks after that.

That said, I'd start by loosening everything. Bolt everything down starting from the block and work your way back.

No, I don’t think that’s what being said. leave the header bolted down to the block and loosen the front pipe bracket. Then you can shove the whole exhaust forward to mate up with the header. Unbolting the muffler can help too, you can realign the muffler and bolt it back up after taking care of the upstream connections.

You could bridge the gap by using an extra flange. There's got to be some fab shop out there that can sell you just a flange.

I was thinking the same since pulling the exhaust forward may cause the tips to pull to one side. Something like this, this one is 2 inch so it wouldn't work.

What is the hole size and bolt pattern? Our VE-Max header uses a 2.5" 2-bolt flange for the STi models. I wonder if it would work?

Per Tomei. The bolt needed is M10-1.25 X 35mm Bolt. Are you saying a 2.5 X 35 MM should work? Been loosening things up and to no avail. I think a longer bolt could solve it. Do you have a link to a 2.5 inch bolt?

He's talking about a 2 bolt exhaust flange for a 2.5"id exhaust pipe, not the bolt size.
