Because the tire they chose was 1" taller than stock which would have lengthened the gearing and slowed acceleration. So we can't be sure if the mediocre time was due to the weight of the larger tire or the much larger diameter.
Regardless, more and better rubber is always a good thing as long as you don't have to screw up your suspension to get the tire to fit.
