2022 BRZ Stock Dyno Results (6MT)
 

Hi everyone,

I finished breaking my car in recently and decided to dyno it. The car feels so good so figured it was worth checking out. The dyno is a mustang dyno that's been calibrated for Dynojet numbers.

I run Shell 93 which is known to be the best fuel we can get in Vancouver, B.C. All the pulls were done in 4th gear. I was definitely impressed with the numbers. It made 222whp & 179tq completely stock. To put some context to the dyno my stock 2013 FRS with a 6MT and 4th gear made 165whp on this same dyno with the same calibration.

I can't believe it's making 57whp more than the original car. These things rock! The team at the shop was impressed as well. Said it makes more than all the stock K20's, K24's, F20's & F22's or really anything that's naturally aspirated 4 cylinders completely stock on that dyno. Toyota/Subaru killed it on this one :thumbup:

I've been compiling all the stock dyno charts I can find. I updated it with yours and a couple others from the dyno numbers thread. Currently averaging 214.19whp and 174.31 ft-lbs.

I'm really starting to wonder now if Subaru/Toyota intentionally sandbagged the horsepower number for insurance reasons (lower premiums potentially) and to not step on the toes of the 4 cylinder Supra.

I think they must have, I'm thinking mostly because of the 2.0 supra and the wrx.

But the power makes sense if you think about it. FA20 made 205, just over 100hp/liter. If we assume a 15% drivetrain loss, and an average 214whp, that's ~252hp. If we assume even less, say 13% loss, that's 246hp. Which is still just over 100hp/liter. If the FA20 did it, the FA24 probably did as well.

I asked on another thread and didn't get much of an answer. Does it matter that the 2013 1:1 gear is 4th but the 2022 1:1 gear is 5th?

Where are you getting these figures? AFAIK both gens have the same 6MT ratios, with 5th gear being 1:1.

And to answer your question, no it wouldn't make a difference if that were true.

Corrected. Okay so it's always been 5th. So....no need to use the gear closest to 1:1. Why are people choosing 4th then?

1) Gear ratio can be compensated for, so it sort of doesn't matter
2) Do you want to be spinning your rear wheels at 130+ MPH on the dyno?

Imagine it shortens the pull time as well, so there is less risk of overheating. No?

Are there any underwriters here who can confirm this? My 420 HP Mustang GT and 300 HP 135i were both cheaper to insure than my BRZ.

I highly doubt HP influences insurance rates.
It's more of risk and profiles of historic owners and accident rates.
