Not Another Brake Pads Thread 2022 Edition
So I am looking for a brake pad upgrade with a few stipulations:
- 2015 BRZ Limited with ~21k miles - I intend to do 2 track days (only 1 track day previously, so I am still a novice) and 4-5 autocross events this year. I want to get a set of pads that will be OK on the track and decent-good for autocross since I will be doing more autocross this year. - Current tires are 225/45 pilot super sports with plenty of life left, but will most likely be shot by the end of the year. - Currently pads/rotors/fluid is stock - I intend to keep my stock rotors unless I need to upgrade. - Suspension and everything else is stock other than an intake tube/filter and OFT tuning. I may do a header in a couple of months and a more aggressive tune, but not sure yet. Currently, I am looking at Motul RBF 660 fluid and Ferodo Ds2500 pads. I realize that the pads are not great for track use, but I am trying to find something with cold bite for autocross and won't fade on the track. I am not opposed to swapping out pads to go to the track/autocross and back for street driving, but it would be great to have a pad that is tolerable on the street. I do not daily the car, so some noise and dust is not too much of an issue. Am I making too many comprises here? Suggestions? Q Sent from my Pixel 4 XL using Tapatalk |
DS1.11, DSUNO, and DS3.12 have a much higher coefficient of friction at cold temps than the DS2500.

I like my DS2500, they will not see track time unless it's an emergency. |
What brake pads should I get if I want to see them though?

You might contact CSG for a pad rec. Bring $$$ tho! I run CSG Spec C2 and got 18 (!) track days out of fronts so cost/life isn't that bad for me.
For autoX of course you'll want something that works great from stone-cold. Stock rotors are fine. I'd bet a 6-pack you'll be fine with off-the-shelf parts store DOT4 or DOT5.1 (*not* DOT5 which is not compatible!). Save some $$ and always available any day. I've never had any issues in any of my cars I've tracked (including 550hp FD). On my Brembo'd brz PP I bleed/flush at beginning of track season and caliper bleed midway through season. Quote:

Im running that combo, RBF600-DS2500, since i daily the car aswell through Swedish winter, dont want any squealing on this car.. Had it on track and they stood up well for the fairly short but hard stints I did 15-20mins, the car was stock but I was pushing it pretty hard. They where great in autocross aswell. But if you never daily it, and don't mind some squealing you could go more aggressive to get better pad life.

"Cold" in autocross terms should be less than 100C. Probably much colder. I don't know if these pads are still better than the DS2500 at less than 100C? I need something at least reasonable for autocross. No argument that all of these pads would be much better on track. Again, I may be trying to do too much with 1 set of pads. Yeah I am OK with noisy pads within reason because I do drive the car on the street fairly often, just not daily. I just do not want any pads will be sketchy on the street and hard to keep bedded if I can avoid it. I am OK swapping pads, but I want to avoid pads that are trash for autocross. I will only be doing 1 or 2 track days a year and far more autocross that. Spending $600+ on a set of pads only for the track when I could get something that would acceptably do both autocross and track days is a better value proposition. My priorities are safety and fun. I am not chasing times or even positions in autocross. I'm just trying to have fun and get better right now. Sent from my Pixel 4 XL using Tapatalk |
Haven't tried many pads on this platform, but they would be great autocross pads, since they are good even from dead cold. I drive in sub zero (Fahrenheit) aswell during winter, and they bite pretty well at those temps to.
Do your have any warm up possibilities before you do auto X runs? Some of the racier pads ive tested in other cars do need a couple of hard brakings to come alive |
I don't have anything to add but I'm also in the same boat, I have a 2022 BRZ 6MT all stock. I'm new to tracking/autocross, I want to attend a full track day coming up in a few weeks, not sure what's best...just change to DOT4 and see what happens...do dedicated track pads and swap back to OEM when I get home...or try to use a hybrid pad fulltime like the DS2500?? I have no idea!!

I'll throw Winmax into the discussion, seem to be well reviewed with the most reasonable product naming stack I've seen yet. iirc corner3motorsports still has their pads in stock.
Nevermind it seems they're a ghost site. |

I run stoptech sports on my gen 1 year round. Ran them in autocross and a couple light 30 minute sessions with no issues. |
WinMax W3 worked pretty well for me. The car has never been to the track, only daily miles. They squeal sometimes, usually pretty loud. They lose bite when its cold. But Ive heard the W4 is the better track pad for this car. The W3 is a good summertime/ hot climate daily pad. Im going with the Ferodo DS2500 when these are gone. They lasted about 30,000 miles.
