IRP Short Shifter worth it?
 

Hello! Looking at the IRP V3 short shifter and curious if the shorter throw actually makes the shifts feel much faster. I understand the gearing is super short in 1st and 2nd, but I feel like reducing the throw could help a lot.

Anyone have experience?

I had the kartboy shifter. One of my favorite mods honestly. Unlike most mods, you can feel it directly every time you shift instead of giving you "increased performance" that you can't REALLY feel

Thank you. I like the sound of a purely “pleasure” mod. Not everything has to be more hp or upgraded wheels you cannot see outside the car.

Does the short shifter fix the notchy shifting you get sometimes with the OEM shifter?

Only when cold or quick shifting but sometimes it feels very mechanical when you shift. But that isn’t a big deal, just curious if there was a noticeable difference.

Short shifter feels very short and crisp. Clicks nicely into gear. I was a big fan of the aluminum drive shaft also, since it's a one piece unit

IRP was one of my favorite mods. Expect some vibrations to be emitted as it's chassis mounted now.

I fitted one about 2 months ago, and I'm really liking it.
The "rattle" is still an annoying factor (and Ive spent hours trying to eradicate it), but I still think its worth it.
I've had many of the other short shifters, and only the kartboy comes slightly close to it for shifting feel (but with the "rattles" too).
The TRD version for me is not as good, but still ok, but at least it doesnt rattle.

For a daily it might be a bit much to live with.
I've felt a friend's IRP shifter setup and it wouldn't work for me to use daily.

The kartboy I played with on another car is probably what I would get.

The IRP is nice but a bit quirky. Mine is difficult to get into 5th gear, the rattle is obnoxious too. I honestly don't think it "feels" better, the stock shifter is much smoother. Having the shifter so much higher and the shorter throw is nice though as it make manipulating the shifter easier under high effort.

Have you tried any of the methods to eliminate the rattles? I’ve seen write ups involving felt lined tape and stuffing the console cavity with foam. Wondering if these methods actually work to reduce and/or eliminate the rattle.

Also, in terms of shifting between stock vs IRP, do you believe the shift is actually quicker?

I have tried eliminating the rattle and it doesn't seem to matter. I think a lot of it comes from the shift linkage going into the shifter. The IRP uses a metal bushing, the stock shifter and the STI short shifter use a plastic bushing. I was going to try some nylon washers in there to try to see if it tames the noise a bit next time I am under the car.

Yes, the IRP is quicker. Not just the throw is helpful, but being taller and closer to the wheel it is easier to grab.
