I get an extra cupholder

So, I have a base model automatic GR86. And I have a third cupholder in the center, as well as two in the folding console. It’s a great place to put my phone.

But apparently premium manual trans cars do not have that third cupholder. So what is it? Base vs premium, or auto bs manual? What variable gets rid of the cupholder?

It was something I had thought they would change from the first gen but nope still where you can accidently turn them on.
I would have done away with the stupid passenger window lock button (really do you need to be able to lock the one other window in the car?) and put them there.

When my dog freaks out he likes to step on them. :sigh:

It's the auto that has the extra holder. I believed the idea is to prevent people bumping into the cups when shifting (something old my miata does) Really would like to add that for my phone as I'm running out of places to put all my "stuff"

I remember someone recently brought up some design principle (possibly more historical/practical than intentional) that buttons on the doors should only control stuff related to doors. "So that if the car doesn't have doors you can still control other stuff", I guess.

Well if a car doesn't have doors then seat warmers are sort of silly.

When a Miata has its roof down, seat warmers are very handy actually.

Subaru Impreza models have always had the seat heater switches in a terrible spot. It's dangerous to look at the switches while driving and as a result it is too easy to accidentally flip them on.

Comparing to my old Acura TSX, the switches were forward of the shifter on either side of the console where you could easily see the indicator lights.

Not sure why but it almost seems like Subaru designs are deliberately quirky, retaining oddball design details.

My phone fits perfectly in the side pocket of the gen 1 cup holder.
