Kia K9, competition for FR-S?

Looks like it's coming in 2012.

A RWD- V8 coupe will probably be in a different class than the FT86; definitely 6 series, MB and Audi territory. I wonder if Peter Schreyer has anything to do with this build?

That is interesting but the article mentions 2015 as the year the potential concept could go into production. Still good to have competition from Kia/Hyundai to keep the other guys on their toes.

Yeah not the FT86 class but could go after the V8 Mustang and Camaro.

I think you misread the article

The K9 sedan is a large, rear-wheel drive platform intended to be powered by both V6 and V8 engines when it comes to market in 2012, but according to WhatCar? the underpinnings of the K9 sedan are also being used to create a RWD, V8-powered coupe.

As if one Kia RWD V8-powered coupe isn’t enough, Kia’s chief Hank Lee also suggested a second concept car will arrive at the North American International Auto Show (also known as the Detroit Auto Show) this upcoming January. Kia will then decide based on the reception of its two concepts which model will be groomed for production with a targeted introduction year of 2015.

It's still a Kia. Run by Hamsters. :P

I was speaking solely in relation to the coupe as that is really the only competition that the FRS would face as the OP mentioned. Also, it is just a poorly worded article. K9 sedan comes out in 2012. Then article mentions the basic sedan design being used for a coupe but that is based on the source from "WhatCar". Then the article mentions the V8 coupe concept being shown at Detroit and based on reception will determine which of the two concepts goes into production for 2015. Trust me, I got what the author literally wrote. Sedan comes out in 2012 and the coupe potentially in 2015 based on the reception of the concept(s).

there's talk of the forte koup getting a turbo engine. possibly the same one that the veloster will get? that's what the FT will compete with...

Price wise sure, it will compete in that low 20k to mid 20k range. However for those looking for a sporty car, the RWD aspect could push someone towards the FT. Otherwise there are ton of other FWD cars in that same 20k to mid 20k range; Si, MS3, GTI...etc.

Right!! I really hope they keep release all these new cars back to back. They'll have too many variants of the same car, too much volume not enough sales and then kaboom bankruptcy! Before you know Kia would be just a memory like Daewoo :bellyroll:

:bellyroll: I still think you don't understand it! :bellyroll:

Maybe I'm losing my marbles too but this is what I'm understanding from the article. I think it's going to be a K9 sedan and coupe (using the same frame as the sedan) for 2012 and another concept coupe for 2015.

Still reading it as concept coupes to be shown at Detroit and Frankfort then decision made. Earliest production would be 2015.

This is a much better written article.

Yeah I agree. The rear portion almost looks like an el camino to me. But this is just an artist rendering so the real concepts could look a lot different.
