I'd like to hear your two cents

I've recently turbocharged my BRZ and I must say its an absolute blast to drive now! With that said, most of my time has been spent hopping up the engine and making more power. I haven't necessarily stopped to consider any other areas of the car until now. I'm pushing around 340whp on e85 and would like to be able to put all that power down without feeling like somethings going to snap or explode. For example I've considered a carbon driveshaft, beefier axles, perhaps some stiffer mounts? The list goes on, but those are just a few. All in all I'd like to hear yall's input as to what should be covered and taken into consideration when trying to put all that power down relaibly. Thank you to all who adds valuable information. It's greatly appreciated!

Definitely get new motor mounts. You'll having a driving feel that's out of this world. Rear diff bushings is a game changer as well.

the biggest problem with increased power is that the gremlins take over. the trans isn't well known to take tons of extra power, or the output shafts. but beefing up either of those presents an issue somewhere else, and on and on.

The driveshaft and axles are going to handle the power longer then the engine.

I have torque solutions motor mounts currently installed and I'm quite pleased. As for any other mounts or bushings, that I do not have. Rear diff bushings are something to seriously consider? Are they any difficult to install?

So I have been told  I've heard the trans starts to become iffy around the 350-400hp mark. The same goes for the shafts. They're both areas I'm considering throwing some upgrades at. But these issues you speak of, would it make considering upgrading those areas not worth it?

Figured I'd get one of these posts stating my engine would go before anything else. That I understand, and have fully wrapped my head around the fact that soon one day that engine will go. Which is no problem, as a small part of me kind of wants that to happen so I can move on to a stage 3 block. But until then, I'd like to work with what I have and continue to improve off this platform as much as I humanly can. Money is not necessarily an issue, not for this project.

If you don't mind hammering your transmission tunnel, you may as well just do the CD009 swap for the transmission. Do that and you wouldn't have to worry about it blowing up.

The ol' 350z tranny huh? I've taken a gander, and it's most certainly an upgrade thats going to happen in the future. But for now, I think I can make that stock transmission last if the proper precautions are taken, no?

Maybe because those are not particularly problematic even above your power level and you would be better off saving for something more pressing like a built block and a cd09 :iono:

If by proper precautions you mean not shifting like an a hole then yeah you could extend the life of it. You're already over the torque rating for our transmissions so it's more or less a ticking time bomb imo.

soundman98 01-30-2022 01:18 AM

i dunno, part of me likes the mindset that the best method for dealing with a guaranteed driveline failure is to pick a failure point that's easiest to replace.

trans sucks to get to, as does the drive shaft, and rear diff. but then the half shafts i believe could be mostly changed with a single floor jack/jack stand and a nice comfy knee pad. so if i've got to choose a failure mode, my choice is the half shafts for ease of access. YMMV.

The trans is iffy well before that power wise if you've got grip.

I drive the thing like it's on glass every day, I never hard shift or rarely have boost built when engaging the clutch. I try to be as gentle as possible. +90 ft lb of torque is really going to guarantee my trans exploding?
