Lexus UC the GR86 Hybrid that we didn't think we needed

You guys believe in this report that Lexus is releasing a luxury hybrid version of the GR86 next year?

These exact photos were heavily discussed almost a year ago here.

The thumbnail photo in that article of the orange "UC" looks bang on. I seriously like it. I honestly like it more than the GR or BRZ. I would love to see this come to fruition but I don't know... How would they even implement a hybrid system? The car's small as it is. It's whole shtick is to be lightweight and simple. Lexus would add a luxury (heavier) interior. Not to mention batteries for the hybrid system.

Not going to lie, that looks great. Not crazy about Hybrid since that will take away what makes the car special.

Stupid Lexus grill is still as stupid as a stupid Lexus grill.

If anyone was worried about how I felt about it.

Stonehorsw 01-23-2022 02:01 PM

Hybrid with cvt would be nice.

PulsarBeeerz 01-23-2022 02:02 PM

no.

Also replacing all the physical buttons and putting the Lexus interface with the pad on the center console.

What else they could offer?

Yup, already talked about like 1-2 years ago. Could be that Toyota engineers were doing a bit of meme'ing with the camo.

It could also be that they were/ are testing whether a Lexus variant might work on the market, similar to how they gussied up the Corolla platform and made the UX. Making a Lexus that is priced higher and actually sells well enough could help to justify future development of the platform, hybridization, new features, etc., so the car doesn't just die out in a few years, which is the real fear given the bad sales history in recent years.

Yeah, pretty sure they were messing with people.

This is the original tweet from the person who took/posted the pics:

It was posted on March 29th, only a few days before the BRZ/GR86 reveal on April 5th.

the car never had bad sales. they never discounted it,, they never struggled to sell any of them, heck, they barely even discounted the financing on them. they sold every one that they built. but it is a lower volume sports car so the sales target was set way lower than as is typical for most mfg's these days. but it was never a struggle to sell.

i don't understand where this idea keeps coming from that the 86 was a sales flop.
