Auto Lock (Doors)

Does anyone know if this feature is available on the BRZ/FRS?

I know that on my other car, after I've reached a certain speed after starting the vehicle, the car will automatically lock itself.

I havent seen that on my BRZ and I feel like someone could just easily open the door while im at a stop light.

Too lazy to lock the door manually and when you try to get out of the car, it doesnt unlock itself either.

Stu baru 08-17-2012 08:37 AM

If it were, it would be on by default I'm guessing.

Sportsguy83 08-17-2012 09:17 AM

It was already discussed in another thread. It is not available.

It's not present on our cars, but even if it were, I wouldn't be too sure about it being on by default. Some things that are off by default: Gear indicator, shift indicator for maximum economy, rev indicator, anti-theft alarm.

ashtray 08-17-2012 12:12 PM

Wait - the alarm is defaulted OFF?!!

OP - just hit the power lock button when you get in if it concerns you. That's what it's there for.

Giccin 08-17-2012 12:55 PM

Thought you could just tinker with the eletrical system a bit and you'd be able to do it.

But you guys say there's no way, so... lets just go with that. lol

Yruyur 08-17-2012 01:08 PM

Wonder if Visconti could put this in the ecu flash

Yes the BRZ alarm is off by default. There is a sequence you have to go through to enable it or have the dealer do it.

Door locking, etc. is controlled by a different computer AFAIK.

Aetyrno 08-17-2012 08:00 PM

Try honking the horn. Our Camry doesn't auto-lock the doors unless you hit the horn with the engine running :P

Do you know where the shift indicator should be set for max economy?

To my knowledge, you can't change the shift points for the indicator - I believe it's hard coded somewhere between 2 and 3K.

If you use the gear indicator function it gives you a little up arrow as a shift indication for the best possible fuel economy. It's usually right around 2000rpm. Depending on your driving conditions, there is no reason you should do this. I improved my fuel economy by 0.1mpg doing this...and since then I've done better by NOT being so frugal with the big pedal. Shifting at ~3k (before the torque dip) will give you great fuel economy and all the confidence of not pissing off the prius behind you for going too slow.

ZC6BRZ 08-17-2012 09:31 PM

There is no autolock feature. I'd guess we'd have to get an aftermarket option to make that happen. I wish it had that too.

Of note is that only automatic-equipped cars are supported.

Mobius357 12-31-2012 08:54 AM

I try to avoid driving though areas that make me want to lock my doors...but here in small town NH, there's not an abundance of shady areas. The problem with shift indicators is they don't know the road conditions...and the one in my car seems to ignore engine load, but it's not distracting like the one in my truck.

ozne99 12-31-2012 11:15 AM

On a side note, is there a setting that will allow the car to lock itself after you walk away?

I haven't been able to find anything. :(

aaronosaurus 01-01-2013 11:41 AM

The lack of this feature might have something to do with this being a sports car. You don't want anything to make the track's rescue crew's job harder.

G_Rossney 05-07-2013 02:18 PM

Yesterday, after work, I left the car unlocked overnight. When I came out to go to work, I noticed my glove box was open and stuff was on the passenger seat. I checked the trunk and a work out bag was emptied and stuff was all over the trunk. Luckily, the car was not damaged and the stereo was not taken.

My friend asked if the car automatically locks the doors after 30 seconds. He has a prius and his does that. I wish mine did. Lost about $200 worth of stuff.

Brzetto 05-07-2013 07:41 PM

I don't know how someone doesn't lock their car when they leave it unattended. *shrug*

What's the sequence you have to go through? :) do you know?

It's in this thread somewhere

zoomzoomers 05-08-2013 03:43 PM

I'd like to know how to turn the alarm on too. If someone finds the procedure please post. :thanks:

Agreed. Let's face it folks: NOT ALL CARS HAVE THE SAME FEATURES. For those who have not yet bought a car that they are considering: KNOW THIS BEFORE YOU BUY!

For example: If your previous ride was a Mercedes or a Cataract don't expect the same.

The doors auto lock. lock the car, unlock with key fob, open passenger door, close passenger door. Car will lock. It stays unlocked if you open the driver door.

Story:
My backpack is sitting on the passenger seat. I unlock my car and set the key on the seat while I grab my cell phone out of my backpack. I shut the door. Then realized, I need my key! I reach for the handle and right before I open the door. LOCKED! Good thing I have a spare key hidden.

flash408 05-11-2013 01:31 AM

Just to clarify:

With the limited BRZ, if you exit the car after shutting the car off, it won't auto lock if you walk away from the car?

jacktman 05-13-2013 01:16 AM

Auto lock

There is a function. If you leave your car, ignition off, for one minute, the doors will lock. It's in the manual.

flash408 05-13-2013 02:02 PM

Do you know what page? Does it need to be turned on like the alarm?

He's mistaken. The feature is to self-lock after XX seconds after being unlocked with a remote/swipe, but no subsequent door opening. The car won't lock itself if you just walk away.

EAGLE5 05-18-2013 11:03 PM

The FR-S locks automatically once you hit a certain speed, like 10mph. I'd expect the BRZ would need some coding to do the same if it doesn't already.

Vincenttam 02-03-2014 01:43 AM

Mines doesnt seem to lock anymore, is there a way to turn this on/off??

BRZfan 02-03-2014 08:29 AM

GOOD NEWS: The poster DIDN'T leave the keys in the car.
Discipline rating: 3 out of a possible 10.

So you have to manually lock your doors? Complain to the dealer.

I thought it wasn't an option on the FRS?

I've read a majority of the brz manual, and the brz locks its doors automatically after 30 seconds of them being unlocked when the keys are not inside the car. I dont know if it does the same after getting out of the car and closing it. Sorry to say the burglar may have jacked your items within 30 seconds of you leaving your car :/

Also you can customize the key settings and how it will react with the doors. Seems pretty cool

Edit : Reasons Why Some Things Were Changed In My Post Was Because I First Wrote From The Top Of My Head, then looked back at the manual to see what was wrong about my post.

mush 02-03-2014 10:22 PM

gone in 60 seconds:iono:

yea i noticed a few times mine locks on its own after a while
